Oil Questions
Oil Questions
So,
My 997s now has 900 miles on it. When cold, it seems like the oil measures half way down from it's "full" mark. When hot, the measurement is at the full mark. Dealers says 0-w40 is the recommended oil. (mobil 1 of course).
Manual says to check during re-fuleing, not if it's cold or hot?
What to do?
Queston 1. Should I add a bit?
Question 2. Should I go with the 0-w40 for Southern California climate?
Thanks!
>>>Apex.
p.s. 2k miles can't come fast enough!

Sounds normal. I would not add any oil to the car because overfilling is not good for the engine. Amazing there is no dipstick. Personally I am a dipstick kind of guy. Oh well.

My 997 S oil level gauge has only 3 bars and the engine is cooled by some antifreeze solution.
I'm also pretty sure that engine oil is not used as a hydraulic fluid in my car .
I have a 996 with 8 bars on the dash. Yes, oil acts as a coolant too and a hydaulic fluid for the variocam! As for that antifreeze stuff, I got some of it too!

I must have gotten confused about the oil level bars.
I thought the guy who asked the question has a 997 , as I do .And we only have 3 bars . In which case, you telling him to keep it between 4 and 5 won't be of much help .
