Damaged during road transport?
Damaged during road transport?
Hey folks,
I was having a 997S shipped in a 2 car container behind a trailer, and the truck pulling was involved in an accident. The truck was badly hurt, but th trailer is intact. Apparently the cars in the trailer are fine, they stayed in their straps, and other than a baseball sized 1/2 inch dent by the front wheel that a good PDR (paintless ding remover) can handle, there is no damage whatsoever.
Also, in addition to getting the PDR paid for, do I ask for further monetary recompense, including being reimbursed for said shipping? I'm a fair guy, and feel like just getting things resolved is enough.
Does your instinct tell you things are okay, or would you be suspicious. How suspicious would you be?

If the dent removes with paintless dent removal, and they pay, what more SHOULD you expect? Accidents do happen, and provided there's no bodywork done, no one will ever know your car's any different.
As most folks know, Porsche fixes cars damaged in shipping in PDI at port before anyone sees them.
I would want to keep close tabs on the repair, however, and be sure whoever does the work knows what they're doing.

I realize that accidents happen, and I'm a fair and honest guy. They've said they'd let me take it to whichever shop I want, and get it repaired, and they'd take care of it. They said they'll make sure I am completely satisfied, which is great.
I think I got lucky that the car wasn't more badly damaged, and that I'm dealing with similarly honest folks.
The hardest part is that I'm still waiting for my car- I want it now!
I'll update y'all when it gets in and I can see the extent of the damage for myself.

Just take it to a good independent body shop that work on high end cars (look at your local exotic boards and see where people take their cars for body work).
It is almost impossible to squeeze any additional money out of this. I know it sucks, but I've been through that with my interstate move where the mover (United Van Lines) trashed all my Ligne Roset furniture and I only got 1/10 of the cost back. So, consider yourself lucky
Enjoy the car!

Damn that must suck when you're waiting for a car to arrive.
By the sound of things, they sound like genuinely honest and good people. If you make sure it's just that ding, I'd just have them pay for the out-buff and leave it at that. You don't want to go through a long-lasting suit when you could be out enjoying a new 997S instead.
