New 997. and an acceleration question
I've picked up my new 997 C2S cab two days ago and have been running it through some driving testing it out. . I've noticed a slight loss of power when accelerating through 3500- 3800 rpms it's almost like the car isn't getting enough fuel. I can describe it almost as a microsecond pause where you feel the Gs lapse during accelerating. I've been driving an SL55 and there is a huge difference in torque but was wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar.
If I remember right that is about the rpm where the variable cams kick in and the engine ramps up. Maybe you are misinterpreting the crossover sensation. You could have the dealer run a diagnostic but I would expect a CEL if there was a perceptible malfunction. You compensate for "huge torque" by learning to use the gearbox to keep the engine where you want it if you are in a hurry. This is more fun than stomping on the pedal
Great car, good luck w it.

apples and oranges sl vs 997. I would expect that the sl would outrun the 997 on a drag strip and the perception of speed is much greater in the sl. The porsche has a wonderful ability to bring you to obscene speeds with moderate drama.
I agree. at times I can't believe the speed I'm traveling at in the Porsche. Effortless. I'm however, interested in the variable cam response above. Is it feasable that I'm detecting the variable cam or should it be imperceptable? Anyway, the car is an absolute pleasure and I will be posting pics soon.
Variable cam with Tiptronic
It seems as though the computer on my 07 C4S is always seeking to upshift in such a way that the engine RPMs stay in the 1500 range -- far less than the range where variable cam kicks in. Unless you have a very fine sense of pedal control, it's almost impossible to keep the transmission from doing this in "automatic" mode, even with the "sport" setting engaged.
Has anyone encountered any fixes for the Tiptronic in "automatic" mode, such as a patch? Yes, I do realize that operating in "manual" mode addresses the issue ....
