Actually, if I was a HP junky...I dont that little bit would do it for me.

Rather I am considering the fact that the S comes with PASM, Xenon lights, lower cost for Turbo wheels standard. These are options I would like on the car anyway so its only about 6k or so more and since it has a higher base I can recoup some of this on the sale.

Its more of a cost thing than anything. Think of it like computers. If you have a fixed amount of money coming in and you blow all of it on the fastest computer, you cannot upgrade for a while. Or you can get one that is 80% of the fastest and upgrade sooner. Each has their advantage...I just have to figure out what the best financial decision is.

Which retains a greater percentage of its value? The S or the base? I am thinking there are a lot of people out there who would be happy to get a 911 base so a cheaper one might be easier to move?

S or non-S, does it matter? What it matters is that you're still getting a 911! However, if it was a boxster/cayman vs 911.. I think the choice would be simple. There's is nothing more like saying you own a 911! :P

But it is true that if you want a more showy car, you get the S. The S is the better bargain though. (you get PASM, bigger brakes, self adjusting clutch, xenons etc) for 10k.

It is like saying if you want a 911 and want to drive it on a daily basis, you should get the base. But if you want a more flashy 911 (looks, performance wise) and will most likely only drive your car on weekends or to tracks, then by all means the S is the more suitable option.
As for me, the decision is simple. I will buy the S with a less showy color.

There should never be a sense of inferiority for the base owners because the S is just basically the same car with more options. =]

Brand new 997 and inferior is such a contradiction.

How many of the population will ever drive a 911? esp a new one.

I meet lay people all the time that have never been in a 911 in their entire life time.

so to be blessed to beable to afford one is a dream come true.

I drove a 996 for 4 yrs and loved it. Not many options just a cab and it got me more stares and questions and people oogling over it..

Just keep your car looking pristine and it will always be a looker no matter what color it is.

I was so proud of all my 911s.

That's a strange analogy. If you have the best computer you can get with your $$, why do you need to upgrade? Just for the sake of upgrading?

Unless you're saying the difference between a 997 and S will set you back so that you can't upgrade to a turbo, for example.

Of course, that could be offset by which one sells for more.
