Hmm.. Chris.. Either car has its own + and - points and it all comes down to what purpose does that car fulfil..

Consider the following :

DD - Get the 911 if you can.. Its Iconic, practical and fun

Weekend car - I would say...erm.. the Cayman S.. More fun to drive and would be a track beast with a LSD+Supercharger and the goodies

The 911 is also very track friendly, provided you fix that roll bar too ..

Once you make the final call ( DD or Weekend) then you can decide on the purchase factor ( new or pre owned) ... I'd go for a brand new any day and any time..

Thanks for the input guys. For clarification, this would be our weekend car since we both have Audis for DDs. I've obviously owned a Carrera S, and I've driven the Cayman S, but it's a tough choice. The main reason for disregarding a CPO'ed car is because we want the buying experience and Euro delivery to be a big part of it. We will be waiting a little while - probably late next year, early 2009, so the DFI, PDK, etc. will hopefully be options.

Chris...don't forget that a Carrera is always a 911, and you know that better than me...plus back seats. The Cayman S is a sweet car with it's handling and size. It's surely a fun to drive that car but...again...the 911 is KING!

If you're going to tie the car into a vacation and pick it up in Germany then please disregard my last post.

Sell your souls, raise some extra $$$ and...

Get a GT3!

The RS4 is what I needed for the immediate future. The Carrera will be a year or so down the road for our fun car after we're married and I get rid of my house in San Diego.

Dude, I don't think you are gonna make it a year without a 911.

I'm certain you can afford to buy either...

but I would choose the one that finally meets your impulse and longer term desires...and is truly the one you can afford to keep.

It's a disease brother... It will have to be a year or more unless I get a 100% raise or something. I did turn down a $300K/year job in Iraq....

Guys - Used is out of the question... We're going for a unique color combo, deviating stitching, etc. If I wanted to replace the car I sold, it'd be the smart move. Also, we are going to do the Euro order and delivery, so it has to be new.

I'm pretty sure it'll be a Carrera in a traditional '60s or '70s color with a nice contrasting interior with deviating stitching to match the exterior.... Should be sweet once I figure out what it is.

So what makes you wanna get the base over the S this time? :P
And yes, nothing feels better than getting a new 911 along with the Euro delivery tour.

One reason is price - an S built the same way would be $103K. Another reason is that I've read/heard that the base 911 is a different feeling driving experience. Another reason is that I don't need/want PASM. Another reason is that I can't really use the additional power around here, the land of the $3500 speeding ticket.
