Anyone replaced the PSM head unit for aftermarket?
Anyone replaced the PSM head unit for aftermarket?
OK. I actually need responses quickly, por favor. Here's what's up:
Have the 997S with PASM and the Sport Chrono and all that, if it matters. No Bose. So I had new Focal component speakers put in the doors and a JL Audio sub put in the back (it's quick release!). To make the PSM (which is your stock screen and radio and all that) work with the sub and amp, you have to have a JL Audio Clean Sweep. I had that installed too. So all should be good. The PSM was going to power the rear speakers. But it isn't working. I've had the factory amp replaced, as well as the PSM unit. Porsche says that the install didn't cause this. It's the car's problem. So I've been without my car of 8... yes... 8 weeks because of this. They aren't any closer on it either. So I said 'screw it'. I'll put in an aftermarket head unit with nav and all that. We checked the lap timer without the PSM in there and it still worked. Obviously, it won't be storing the laps in the PSM anymore if I swap it out. But if the analog works, that's cool. Is there anyone who has done this? Can you tell me if any other system is compromised? I gave the techs a drop dead date of today on Monday. I forgot to get on here and do my 'research online'. So please help me out. 1) Do you have any idea why two different PSMs won't work in my car? They play for 5 secs and then shut off, like they're overheating. OR 2) Have you put in an aftermarket headunit and have any pros or cons for me? Thanks much.
Whew.

Jared: I have done the same thing to my 2007 c4s, but we ran amps alpine amps off the cleansweep to power up both the jl 10" sub and the JL zrs in all the speakers we replaced. we have had no problems with the PCM.

Thanks Mike. Any chance it could be that the factory amp is seeing a decreased load? If this is the problem, I want to shoot my installer with paintballs at close range. 8 weeks???
