new ECU, intake upgrade on C2-non-s @ Sharkwerks

just wanted to give everyone my thoughts on the small upgrade that I had done at Sharkwerks the other day. for one Alex is a great guy, nice clean shop and has a nice big screen tv if you need to wait awhile though I liked looking at all the toys in the shop. I was in and out in little over an hour and as soon as I left the the drive way I could tell the diffrence, in 2nd gear above 2800 rpms it starts to pull much harder and all the way through 3,4,.,.right at 5500 the motor really sceems louder. over all I thought this is a great upgrade for the money, 1095.00 and 595.00 ( ECU-intake) also I think the rpm go a little higher, 7600??? (didn't do a before dino and don't plan on doing after) will have Alex but on new PSS9's , sway bars and maybe light weight flyweel next week, can't wait! should feel like a new car. thanks again Alex.

hey mike... thanks for the kind words and glad you like the mods The better throttle response because of the egas remapping really helps too. Wait till those PSS9s and sways go on- it's a really big difference indeed to to the stock suspension. It'll be so much flatter through the turns etc...

PS On the flywheel, I'll bring the RS in and the Cayman just so you can listen/see it once again

light weight flywheel is about 13lb vs. 30lb on the stock, motor rev's up and down easyer, Alex can better explain.

Tony, in a nutshell you get considerably better acceleration as a result of less rotational mass so your car revs up quicker etc... Just like a GT3RS vs a GT3. You can try it on the Cayman S as well to see what I mean but basically it no longer feels like a lethargic/lazy revving engine. A dual-mass (or "twin mass") flywheel like you have is effectively two flywheels in one, connected to each other by a coupling that allows the two flywheels to rotate relative to each other in a range up to 15 degrees, but with a small amount of resistance to this movement. This movement and the inertia/resistance of the mechanism and mass of the flywheels, therefore cushioning the power pulse variation that can cause gear rattle- this was/is the case much more on 996s than 997s. Dual-mass flywheels use a simple solid-center clutch disk. It is more difficult to change the speed of the dual-mass flywheel, whether accelerating it or slowing it down... that means besides inhibiting engine acceleration to some degree, it also inhibits the deceleration that occurs between every power pulse. A single-mass flywheel is the same sort of design as a solid aluminum lightweight flywheel: a rigid disk of metal, either aluminum or steel. In the OE applications, these flywheels are equipped with a sprung-hub clutch. The sprung-hub clutch "splits thte difference" between the these situations. The friction material (the disk itself) is not "hard coupled" to the hub, but has a springy nature to the assembly. It has a suspension, the springs you see around the hub.
