Nitrogen,gimmick or better than air?

Last time i bought sneakers iin June filled with nitrogen I am pleased with the performance so far. There seem to a lot less fluctuation in tire pressure between hot and cold. seem to hold pressure a lot longer too. Only drawback i found was lack of availiblity in Cali, only place to get topped off is Costco. The good news is its free there. It seems to be readliy available here in FL.

Your thoughts?

This is total BS. Air is about 79% nitrogen ALREADY so you can spot a difference of 21%? It's a total gimmick.

yeah I know air is mostly oxygen. I will say that my tire pressure stays constant for weeks on end so if its a scam its convinced my tires it works too. Somehow I think Costco would have figured out it was a scam before they put it in all of their Cali stores. Champion pushes nitrogen to at their Porsche & Audi stores......

I don't see any real benefit of using nitrogen on the street. Some people use it on the track - it does cut down on the fluctuation between cold and hot tire pressures, but I've never been bothered enough to try it.

Agree IF you check your tire pressure regularly. Nitrogen is heavier so stays at a constant volume longer. If you are one of those people who wait until your tires are 10+ lbs. low before you put air in them it's a good idea. Otherwise track conditions is really where it benefits you.

with 19" rims and low profile I like any margin of error I can get. I push the car pretty hard on the street in Fl & in Cali well its even harder.

"Nitrogen is heavier so stays at a constant volume longer"

Nuh Uh. One has nothing to do with the other. It does have a higher gas constant than oxygen (by 14%) but..... that would make it change pressure 14% more than oxygen, not less. This as a result of temperature change and a constant volume. With nitrogen already being 79% of air, the change would be 2.9% and for the worse, not better.

Some info on Nitrogen compressors:

Nitrogen : High performance tire inflation

Minimize fuel consumption
A tire should be properly inflated at all times to ensure good road contact. Oxygen molecules escape quickly through tire rubber. The resulting pressure loss will affect fuel use as the tire loses full contact with the road. Nitrogen stays in the tire longer, stabilizing the tire’s shape to lower fuel consumption.
Improve tire life
Compressed air can create oxidization of the rubber which will increase tire wear. Air also escapes easily from the tire - reducing pressure and creating uneven wear. As an inert gas, nitrogen doesn’t oxidize the rubber, contributing to longer tire life. Because nitrogen does not escape from the tire as quickly, it creates a more even level of wear and decreases maintenance.
Increase safety and driving comfort
Fluctuating temperatures cause the air inside a tire to expand and contract – affecting performance and increasing the risk of a blowout. Nitrogen disperses heat more easily to keep the tire cooler. it also maintains the right tire pressure longer, minimizing the danger of skidding and improving comfort, handling and safety even further.
