Viper Guys Check in!

Thinking about getting a Viper now instead of a f348. How's the Gen 1 vs the Gen 2? Gen 1 more like a 'race' car? I like the raw idea of a gen 1 but having no windows might get old after a while...What is a good price to pay for a gen 1? ? If I get a Gen 2 I want a GTS but don't know if they are worth the extra cash? Opinions?

GTS is more of a "race" car than a Gen I RT/10. A clean 96-99 can be had for mid to high 30s.

Skip the early gens and go with the SRT, a better car in every way, pwr, brakes, looks IMHO...

Budget minded? Get an RT, change out the wheels - great looking cars!!

Prices are tanking on SRT, get a '03 cheap.

Go for SRT with you want better handlings, braking and less cabin heat.

You can buy a low milage gen 2 GTS for 38K all day long and the upgrades vs the gen 1 are worth every $$. Two totaly diff. cars...

Good Luck

p.s. If you buy a 96-99 GTS the motors were forged so you can boost or spray the hell out of them...

Well I want a GTS, Ralph Schomp in Englewood just sold a nice one for 33k! Wish I would have seen it a day earlier, it sold fast. I found a pretty cheap deal on a 1st gen with supercharger, headers, rockers, etc already put on it and only 1k miles on the mods. I think I might get that one for now...see how I like it then always be able to upgrade later to a GTS.

Are the pistons forged on 94-99 or just 96-99?

Ive owned all three Generations - 93RT, 97GTS (blue/white), and 03 SRT. Agree with what most folks chimed in here. My favorite of them all was the 97GTS. If i were to do it again, Id find another blue/white GTS (96/97) or a 99 GTS.

The Gen3 was the most civilized of them all and has the power, brakes, etc as Ken said. Prices are probably in the dumps (for everything), so might be a good time to snag one.

I know I was a day late.

It did have 35k miles but 33k was hard to beat....

Not sure on the 94-95 rt pistons...

Drive both and you will see why the 2nd gen cars are better gts and RT's.

The pistons are forged on the Gen1 but the motor weighs 80 lbs more than the Gen2. The total weight of a Gen1 vs a Gen 2 is 200 lbs more.

How would you know Bob. It's not like your running 900+ rwhp with a stock motor on pump.... I forgot the 8 lbs of boost part.
