Custom Work

To all of you familar with doing custom muscle cars, what would be the best place to start. I do not have the time or skill to do it myself, so I would want to use a custom shop. What shops are the best? Where should I start? What impacts the price most significantly? I would be looking at a late 60's Camaro or a Cuda as 2 of my favs. Any directional support here would help. Thanks to all!

Well, where you start as far as looking for a shop depends on your budget, plain and simple. If you give me a ballpark I can point you to a some builders, depending on how far you are willing to send the car (if you have the car already, that is).

Are you looking for a pro-street 1/4 mile racer? Or a pro-touring/G-machine?

The 2 best places to check are pro-touring.com and lateral-g.net. That's where the bad *** Camaros and muscles car hang out at.

What impacts the price? How fast you want it done, how many bolt-ons you want vs more elaborate parts (custom). Lets start with a budget and I can give you a good idea what you can get for that money.

As for a budget, it kinda depends on what I could get for the money as I am not familiar with options now. Ballpark 80k or so roughly. Thanks for the other links, I will check it out.

I tell you what... unless you are dead set on building your own car, or having it built, and making all the design and parts decisions yourself, I would highly recommend considering buying someone else's completed car, or a nearly completed car. I know of several great candidate 1st gen Camaros from 40k to 100k. I know of a kick *** black 68 Camaro you could buy for $70-75k right now, but it would cost you over 100k to duplicate it or build something similar.

PM me and include your phone number if you wanna chat more in detail. I'd like to help you out with your decision making process.

And in hindsight, after being amost 2 years into my build, I would probably just buy another car either done or almost done if I could do it over again. Also, the market is great for a buyer of these car's right now - another advantage for you.
