Newbie to Z06 intro
Newbie to Z06 intro
Hello All,
For the past year or so I have mainly been on the 996tt/gt2 side of things, but recently my buddy and I purchased a C6 Z06 for rwd muscle fun at the road course/drag strip. The car is silv/black fully loaded with 7700k miles and we got a pretty good deal based on the economy. First day out at Harris Hill Road in San Marcos TX with the car and the track was wet and empty so it was a great exp learning the cars behavior under the conditions. The rear run flats were toast so we slapped on some Generals of the same size for $232 a pop non run flats. I was impressed with the handeling of the Z with traction contol off. I stayed on the track the whole time with one close call. I am still a beginner to road course driving and Bo, one of the owners was teaching me tons of stuff to get the car wobbly and regain control. It was Bo's first time to drive this gen Z car and he was extremely impressed with the overall balance of the car. We have Brembo gt's ft/rear in boxes, eibach coilovers on the way, k&N short shifter and hre C93's Mich ps2's still on the way as well from Ben at WB. Anyway just wanted to say hello and I will get some pics up once I get her cleaned up. I also bought a srt10 viper 04 with 8k miles but have not got her out much yet. Looking forward to my stay on this section.

Harris Hill is kind of a short course for the Z06 to stretch it's legs. If you're new to things, I highly recommend the Driveway near Austin-Bergstrom.

It's a .6mile course that offers very, very good instruction relatively cheap. I believe the intro course is $285, and gives you 8 hours of instruction. Bill runs the place, great guy with a lot of experience. Looks forward to seeing you on the track.

Congrats and enjoy.
I track my Z06 and it is a beast - especially on longer courses where you can use the extra horsepower. You will notice a big improvement when you add the coil overs and the brakes. I have the Brembos and DRM coil overs - it is a whole different car. If you add sticky tires keep an eye on the oil pressure - it seems to be the weak link when these cars have had suspension upgrades and are able to sustain higher g's in the corners.

Good insurance for the money. I upgrade to an ACE pan and tank since I have been running Hoosiers and suspension modes. It is a know problem so play it safe.
