z06 exhaust question

my father is looking into a cat back exhaust upgrade for his 09 zo6. some people have recommended getting a kit that opens the baffles in the stock exhaust all the time. could this cause in any long term problems with the car? would there be any hp increase with this? can anyone comment on the sound of this vs stock.
thanks

That is the easiest and cheapest way to make the car a little louder. Will not hurt anything, but don't expect any power gains either.

You don't have to buy anything to do that you can just pull the fuse. I have the M2W(mild to wild) setup and I can open or close the baffles at will on my Vette. They aren't expensive and only takes a few minutes to install. I think they are great. Best mod out there.

Wow, I could of sworn I posted on here showing a youtube vid of the muffler mod. Also suggested the M2W switch, guess it got deleted. Well, good luck finding any info on here.

1)If you want to keep stock exhaust and butterflies open all the time just pull the fuse.

2)If you want stock exhaust and want to control the butterflies - mild2wild is the easiest way.

3)You can do the muffler mod and do either 1 or 2 and have louder exhaust.

4)I think there is only one after-market system out there that has butterflies. I believe it is a Billy Boat system.

I've got the Sunset Orange controller in my ZR1. They have a few different options. I chose the controller that allows the butterfiles to be controlled via my Visor button.

Mild to wild, if its not loud enough then switch it over to the B&B fusion. I had them on my 08 zo6 wiht LG long tube headers Amazing sound.

CORSA!!!
These will give your Z06 a great sound at WOT, yet quiet on the hwy.
I have driven my buddy's Z06 with these on and it sounds so much better than the stock mufflers, even with the valve open.

There is a fuse under the passenger side carpet. Just pull it out and the baffles will stay open. If you like the sound, you can buy the mild 2 wild switch to control the baffles manually. The switch is basically an on/off switch hooked onto the fuse.

If it isnt loud enough, then aftermarket is the way to go. Corsa sound good, B&B bullets if you want really loud.

I have the same set-up in my '07 Z06, and I think it's great. I usually have the butterflies open for tooling around in town. Once you get up to speed on the highway, just press the visor button and everything quiets down. I like the visor version as you don't need to install a switch have a FOB in the car to control the flaps.

They do sound checks at our local track (once is good for the whole year). It's the only 5 minutes the butterflies are closed at the track for the whole year.

You can program it so the car starts with the butterflies open or closed--your choice.

On the Vette forums, it surprises me how often you hear of people who buy aftermarket exhausts, and after a while, remove them, put the OEM exhaust back on and sell the aftermarket. I guess they get tired of the constant loud exhuast.

I have the B&B Fusion system on a Z I bought and mostly because of the fact that it is cammed and has long tube headers etc I am finding it too loud. Its the drone at certain rpms that is the killer.

Is the Fusion the one with the butterflies? and it still drones with butterflies closed?

Just pull the fuse and the baffles will stay open. I was pretty disappointed with the sound though...it doesn't make it that much louder. That's why I got the Basani exhaust and it is LOUD. I highly recommend it.
