I know you guys know about the Z06 Carbon. Even with a seemingly half hearted mag driver it was pretty close to the GTR's time [tenths off]. I think its the best track oriented Vette they ever made.

Buy a C6 Z06, ship it to Katech for the Club Sport package.....at 2915 lbs, all you need is a cam change you have a 550-600 rwhp track beast for far less than the Carbon or the ZR1.

Blue Devil is infamous around these parts
If I was looking for a pure track beast I'd probably go with a Viper ACR. I decided to go with a ZR1 because I prefer to track sportbikes instead of cars so I wanted a car that was more street oriented. I really enjoy waking up early and taking the ZR1 on good quick run on mountain roads as it has proved to be the most fun I've had on 4 wheels. I took the ZR1 on a road trip from Louisiana to Arizona and that was a lot of fun as well.

Cheater Thought we were talking about bone stock factory offers. Very hard to beat that Clubsport though. Thats a whole lot of tracknastyness for the money. Especially when you look at the price of the ZR1 and Carbon and even ACR.

Great pics!

I wonder why Katech used drilled rotors for their track car? I've found they don't hold up nearly as well as slotted rotors, but I guess they look pretty slick!

If we're talking track only production... I think the ACR-X would be very hard to beat, especially for the money.

The ZR1 Carbon Ceramics are the only thing I would upgrade on the Katech car. And the ACR-X is not a street legal car. The ZR1 is a more useable car the rest of the week that your not at the " Ring " and is very close in track performance.

I read somewhere (Road & Track or something like that) the C8 version coming out in 2012 or 13 will be mid engine design? originally slated for 2011 but the gov bailout postponed the change. Growing up I was always a fan of the vette's, until 69 - 2006/7ish, I wonder why GM fell a sleep for that period of time (as all US auto manufactures seemed to), they have made a huge improvement in the last several years.

ZR1 isnt remotely close to the ACR-X in track performance. Maybe you are confusing the regular ACR with the ACR-X? The ACR-X is 2-3 secs faster than the regular ACR and the ACR is about 4 secs faster than the ZR1 on the Ring and at VIR. Also 3-4 seconds is not close when it comes to track performance. I think the Clubsport is the car to compete with the ACR as they are close in performance. Maybe you meant the Clubsport is very close in performance to the ACR??? Maybe my info is not up to date but I havent seen any ZR1 test where its close to even the reg ACR's track performance.

The ACR-X is not street legal and the normal ACR is 3 tenths of a second faster as far as " Ring " time. The first ZR1 time was a 7:26 to the Vipers 7:22, but later the ZR1 ran a 7:22 ring time as well. You can't compare the ACR-X to the ZR1 because it is not a street legal car. Also with PTM and Stabilitrak in race mode....I am sure the average below pro level driver will actually run faster in the ZR1. If they drove to the track they will have all of their fillings and their kidneys intact!

I love the ACR it is a formidable track day weapon, it is so raw and so sexy! But I think the thing I hear about the ZR1 is it actually is more comfortable than the Z06. It is made more in the mold of a hyper GT car than a track day special like the ACR or Z06 Carbon.

I stated, "If we're talking track only production..." since that was the direction the conversation started heading. But agreed, since Dodge didn't give these cars a VIN, it's a moot point if we are taking about street performance. Than again, you cant test or push the road racing limits these cars are capable of on the street anyway... so maybe it is still a semi-valid comparison. The real difference is you just can take an ACR-X to DD for coffee afterwords. But on a track, the X will eat the ZR1 or the CS for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

As Snake stated, the ACR-X has already proven to be seconds faster than the ACR (which is already faster than the ZR1) around tracks like VIR. If you look at this over a greater distance, you're looking at a LOT more than a few seconds around something like the ring... especially since the top gears have been upgraded since the older 2008 ACR was run around the ring.

Agreed, but again the ACR-X is probably closer to a T1 prepped Z06 than it is to a ZR1....which as I said is more hyper GT than pure bred race car. The ACR and ACR-X have adjustable suspension and aero that generate real downforce. So in the right hands yes they would be much faster than the ZR1. I don't think the OP is really much concerned about which car in the hands of a pro driver will be better on a race track. The Katech CS has everything except the Aero and I would imagine on tracks that are lower speed track the CS's weight advantage would negate the ACR's aero advantage.

That 7:22 the ZR1 supposedly ran was an internet hoax last time I checked[its been a while lol] I read that on Corvetteforum.com. Someone put it up on the Ring list but it was debunked on the Vette forums. I dont think they would lie against the ZR1.

Also on VIR the ACR was again about 4 seconds faster than the ZR1 so I dont know man. I like em both so no bias here just dealing with what seems to be facts. Ill gladly recant if I see irrefutable proof that GM ran the Ring again and did a 7:22. I remember when this was first seen on the net and many believed it until it got debunked on CF.

I concur on not comparing the ACR-X to the ZR1. Apples to oranges.

I own a Corvette now.....don't tell anyone but I would probably take the ACR over the ZR1....especially if we are talking about buying the Viper at close to invoice....which I could. Also the Viper especially with the right color scheme does look better, more exotic and less familiar....even though I guess you can modify the ZR1 to get head turns a lot more as well!
