Which C6?

I'm looking into the purchase of a C6 Vette. I've never owned any sort of American Muscle before and I need some opinions to help me decide on either of my options which are more or less within the same price range ($35k-$39k). Both automatic with paddles.

1. 2008 C6 ZHZ (Hertz) - 26k miles, Targa, LS3, Magneto adjustable dampers, limited edition (500 units less 3 units destroyed = 497 left). Cons: i'll never know how it was treated during its life as a rental in Hawaii. Overall in great condition.

2. 2006 C6 Convertible - bought by my friend at 3k miles and now at 6k+ miles, LS2, Z51 suspension/performance package, Z06 Rear Quarter Panels, Heads-Up Display, Makaveli forged wheels, Borla exhaust. Haven't seen it but I'm sure it is in excellent condition and looking at the pics, it looks meaner.

Better engine, weaker suspension (1) ......OR......weaker engine, better suspension (2)?

Which one would you think would hold value better? Exclusivity/future collectibility (1) ......OR......low mileage (2)? I'm expecting to drive it around 1k miles each year.

Thanks for any help.

Agreed, sucks though. As the LS3 is a better motor.

9/10 I would say LS3 no doubt, but since its a rental car, no dice. The LS3 is an amazing engine from the factory. However the LS2 sounds like a nice car, just not a big fan of verts, but a widebooty with aftermarket wheels is hard to go wrong.

Stick with the '06. If it was any other rental I wouldn't be as hesitant, but you know how people are with their own cars. Imagine how ridiculous they are with a rental Corvette.

I differ with most here, although do agree rental cars get thrashed. It appears the '08 would still have factory warranty, so if anything is wrong you can get replaced at no cost. You said it was in excellent shape, have you driven it? Does Hertz have an agreement with GM on vehicles sold back to public that bullshiat and stall tactics cannot be countered when repairs are requested (I am talking things like clutch and tranny, although not broken, is worn/problematic and impedes on car's performance/driveability). The LS3 is a winner!!!

BTW, if no warranty on '08 do not buy.

Yes, I've driven it. It looks and feels to be in great shape, except for a couple of minor scratches on the black stripes on the roof and curb rash on the front passenger side wheel. We do have a Chevy dealer here (who, btw, doesn't sell Corvettes unless special ordered) but I have yet to check on the warranty coverage on these Hertz cars as well as on cars not bought from them.

I shall be checking on the '06 later today. Just checked on youtube the Borla exhaust on these cars and they sound badass! This '06 is equipped with the Borla exhaust. I guess it would all depend on which car would raise the adrenaline meter.

BTW, any opinions on the future collectibility of the ZHZs? Would it depreciate less compared to standard C6s?

Also, any comments between standard suspension with magnetic dampers vs Z51 performance package?

I will assume ZHZ is the Hertz's allocation of the C6 in yellow with black stripe. Based on car has base everything except a few pinstripes, it is worth the same as any other C6 with similar mileage.

Having owned a 05, 06 and renting a ZHZ in Maui, not doubt go for the 06. Honestly the ZHZ is ugly with the stripes and Yellow would grow old quick as a daily driver. The 06 already has exhaust, wheels, widebody rear, so you pretty much would buy a car that is already set up and ready to go. You would spend easily $5000 if you wanted nice 3 piece wheels and tires and rear widebody and another grand to put an exhaust on the ZHZ if you wanted something louder than the Stock NPP exhaust.

having Said that I do like the LS3 but I know how I drove the ZHZ in maui and imagining how others did it's probably pretty ragged out. the 06 with that mileage is still not even broken in. The ZHZ will have no collect ability and right now can be purchased for the same price as a comparably equipped regular C6. So don't even think about purchasing because it will be worth something. Maybe in 100 years at barrett jackson, but not anytime soon.

I do like the LS3 but if this is your first C6 I really don't feel you will even notice that much of a difference in power. So my vote for sure would be 06, good luck there are fun cars.

ps, Z51 gives you better brakes, stiffer suspension, extra oil coilers, so if you plan on tracking the car it's a nice option to have. The magnetic is nice if you are not worried about the track. Only problem is that system and the shocks are expensive to replace if something ever go's wrong.
