mustang throttle cable issue????

hi fellas,
I'd just bought an 01 mustang as a beater & noticed that the throttle cable is loose when I tug on it..when it comes to engine dept..I'm no expert but this doesn't look normal is it?...It has 112000 miles...I've check & can't sees anywhere to tighten it...I also noticed when driving..I stepped on the gas, the RPM keeps revving instead of dropping back down like it normally should after 3k rpm or so..it'll fall back down when I let off the gas of course..this happens from time to time & sometime it runs normal...I'm afraid to get on the hwy & the RPM keeps revving when it happen...so my question is do I need a new throttle cable or this is a whole separate issue..

any suggestion is much appreciated...thx

here's a pics of my ride & the throttle cable...

Sounds like you need a clutch.

IIRC you can adjust the cable, though u may need an after market quadrant Adjuster. I'm not as familiar with the pre-05 cars

The highlighted area indicates to me a slipping clutch.

In my experience, the RPMs revving is a classic symptom of a clutch going out. If your throttle cable is loose, the throttle response should be slow.

Good you got it figured out. At least you didn't have to drop a tranny in an AWD car, which can easily set you back 4K or more. Even though I hate paying repair bills, it's always nice to get my baby back running just right.
