Are you on a list waiting for delivery of a C8? Weigh in here if you are, share your build, maybe we can get some more activity going.
I am on the list of one of the largest Corvette sellers in the US. I am in the "500s" for a 2021. This dealer is guessing they might get as many as 1200 allocations for 2021, but the entire dealer network is in the dark right now as GM is getting back on its feet post Covid shutdown. Without any info right now, I am hoping for a spring, maybe early summer call. I wanted to wait one MY BC GM has a little shakey past on first MYs. I will be doing the factory delivery, so, when the car is built it will stay at the Corvette Museum. I'll fly to Nashville, drive to Bowling Green and drive the Vette back to Phoenix. It'll be a good way to get some quality road time early with the car
My build is a coupe; 2LT, black with black/red interior; Z51; Trident gray wheels. I got these particular wheels BC GM is not offering anything good looking in black and will go aftermarket after receiving the car.
Wellll....just when I thought I was sure I knew what I wanted....The dealer called yesterday and wanted to get my order in the GM Workbench. At the VERY LAST minute, I changed my build to the convertible instead. So now my official build is:
2021 Corvette 2LT; HTC; Black with red/black interior; Trident wheels and museum delivery. It will look ever so slightly different than the coupe...like this:
I partly made my decision because, more and more, the "engine under glass" on the coupe looks tackier and tackier with plastic engine covers. GM really shortcut it. On top of it, many of the first owners are doing DIY projects painting these engine covers, and while their paintwork is acceptable, the gala colors make the engine view even tackier. On top of that, because of the way venting is on the coupe, there is water ingress in the engine compartment when washing the car, so every wash comes with an engine detail, or you are wrapping the engine bay with towels, etc.
The Vert, on the other hand, is a hard top convertible. Essentially the same chassis with two different tops. I began looking at numerous pics and was sold.
Even stranger, I swore off convertibles years back in the ragtop era. Was so sure I'd never own another vert...well, here I am wrong. Here is a pic of the two and, although I do not like the black accents on the vert, I do like the profile much better.
I was, and my name was on a list locally starting in Aug 2019. 10+ year salesman, Corvette specialist told me MSRP + $199 D&H. He notified me early in 2020 to firm up with cash and I got cold feet, told him I wanted to see one in the flesh first. Well he called me again last year when there was one at the dealership belonging to the sales manager. I checked it out, some things were pretty cool, others looked rather cheaply done. I was not 100% sure I wanted this, or even over 50% sure. I have 2 Porsches now and don't need a "new car" fix. I want something that I'm head over heels in love with and the C8 is not it. On the Corvette forums, I'm constantly reading about the poor build quality, and all the issues that keep popping up. Hey, it's a Chevy, and Chevy people are used to this stuff. I'm not and will not accept it. So I doubt quality will never get any better. It was poor in the 70's and '80s when I bought new GM crap including 'Vettes, doesn't look much better to me, so even though I rather like the C8 design, I won't put up with what I consider to be low build quality. Lexus, Porsche and Subaru have spoiled me.
I bet you wish you would have bought it now. Could have flipped it for some crazy cash and bought another P car with the proceeds. C8 market is more bonkers than most right now.
Fast forward....I lasted 5 weeks on the waiting list for a C8. Cancelled and bought an AMG GT. I am so thrilled with this car and so glad I didn't stick with the Vette. Since the beginning, the C8 is plagued with issues, the most recent of which is the DCT. Too numerous to list here, otherwise this would be 5 paragraphs long. Another big issue with the C8 problems is that replacement/warranty parts are not available BC all parts are going to the new build. Some have been waiting several weeks for replacement transmissions.
I've had the AMG for almost a year now and it has been bulletproof.
In reply to post 4, I would have purchased the C8 to use, not flip, so that wasn't a consideration.
