How safe is the C6 Corvette?
How safe is the C6 Corvette?
I have been toying with the idea of getting a C6 as my new daily. I have to get a beater car because I'm transferring to a different college that is rough on cars, and I'll prob get a used jeep wrangler or something. Since I am going to have a responsible car if its snowing or whatever, I thought it would be cool to get something fast for fun i.e. Corvette. My dad is normally real cool about getting sick cars for me, but he is real big on safty and he thinks corvettes are horrible because a friend of his died in one like 20 years ago. It's rediculous I know! If you guys have any information about the safty aspects of the car I would REALLy appreciate it. I know it sounds stupid but if I was buying my kids cars I would want them to be safe too I guess. And yes he and I are both aware the 599 probably isnt a safe car but he doesn't really care for some reason same with the porsche.

I really want a GT3 to replace the Turbo, but my dad HATES porsche right now. He is so weird, he hates BMW because we had a 735i or something and it broke all the time so he refuses to buy ANY BMWs (this is like 20 years ago btw). He hates Audi because his A8 brakes all the time so he refuses to buy any Audis and he wants to sell my S4. He hates Corvette because his friend died in one so he wont buy any Corvettes either.
I just called him to talk about Vettes and he is like "im not buying you any closed casket car" lol. I tried to get him to think about an elise, but he said he would run over it with his motorcyle which he says would total it (he doesnt own a motorcycle and has also banned me from ever even riding on one).
Now he thinks if I track the Ferrari they are going to void the warranty and he will loose like 300k on resale or something stupid like that. So I gotta get something I can track otherwise I'm gonna end up with a big ticket on of these days.
just re-reading this is making me laugh he is such a goof it's great
NHTSA and IIHS do not crash test them but I think they are pretty safe. At one point they actually found the hydroformed frame rails were to rigid and did not absorb enough energy during side impacts so they actually made them weaker. Its hard to find the info but I am sure they are on par with any other sports car.
