ECU Scam

Anyone know how we can confirm that a tuner has indeed updated the ECU?

What prevents a dishonest tuner from pocketing the 3500.00 and not really updating the ECU?

You should feel the difference in the seat of your pants after the flash is done. If it feels the same than something is wrong.

If it is a GIAC file the VIN number can be scanned in the system to see if there was a requested key code.

A dyno is not going to tell you if the car had something wrong with it and the ECU was still flashed. If you had a base line then it would but to just go jump on the dyno after the car was flashed will not tell you the 12 things that could be wrong with the car that we have seen.

Every program that I know has a software trail when it flashes.

Use a reputable tuner. Get references.

the difference should be very noticable, especially on a turbo. first thing is make sure they are reputable, and authorized flashers/tuners etc.

ECU changes are always a risk. After following many posts over the last 18 months, it appears that those who modify their ECU's aren't really worried about warranty - it's the performance enhancements that drive the decision.

i'm not that worried about the warranty but if the engine blows out:-D $50,000 is gonna get deducted from my bank account thats when i would be worried:-D i can buy a honda civic mod the hell out of it and i will be probably saving $25,000:-)

the question is, how would an ECU upgrade blow out an engine? is it that the engine is not capable of handling this much power?

what are you talking about. whos talking about problems. he doesnt have the car flashed and wants to know if got programmed. your right if the the program just sucks and no gains are shown. a baseline would be a given. but considering its a 997tt all 99% of flashes out there will show gains.
