Got a great deal on a 08 997tt but..
if a dealer does a record month or good sales Porsche NA gives them a allocation they dont get to build, i think this is the case.
I think you'll get to read very different opinions, with the majority probably stating that no SC would kill your resale value. I can only give you my opinion: Initially I did not want to order SC because of the ugly wart on the dashboard. I then got convinced to add it to my order (and will leave it that way).
However, if I had been offered a great deal, I would have had no problem buying it without SC because I believe that there is a segment of people out there who don't consider the lack of SC a deal-breaker. For example, not all of the people at my dealership ordered the sport chrono option, so very obviously there are individuals that don't care about it that much.
People buy cars for different reasons, and once our cars hit the used car market, there will be buyers stretching their budgets who won't care about the SC as long as the lack thereof also translates into a lower price.

Having sold 2 Carreras myself that I purchased brand new, including a 01 TT, both buyers knew very little about Porsches in general and virtually nothing about the options. Both cars were essentially bought based on exterior color and that they were in very good condition.
Maybe you got a good deal because it didn't have SC? Frankly, I do think you are going to get hit on resale. There may be some who don't care but it is all a game of numbers and most will not want to give up the added performance.

8% is substantial but personally I would pass. The best senario is the car is fairly stripped in the first place and can be had for $118,000 plus tax/ Lic with your discount. Depreciation is steep the first year followed by the 2nd and 3rd years. Expect $10K+ per year depreciation (more the first year). If I am spending this kind of $$$ on a car (I actually did in April) i would want it optioned out exactly the way i wanted it. No SC kills the deal for me and I own one. Then again what you don't know won't hurt you? I managed to get $5k off MSRP because I was a good customer but even with that I do not feel that this car was a bargain. I plan on keeping this one as long as possible and after 4 years plan to mod the car (warranty wont be an issue any more). As far as depreciation goes if your worried about what will happen this is the wrong car to buy. Look up "Cost to Own" at KBB or Edmunds.com and compare it to other cars in the same catagory. Depreciation is just one aspect in determining the total cost of ownership. I am happy I purchased mine but I don't plan to make this a regular habit every 2-3 years (nevermind my past habits LOL).

I'd buy it if I was looking for a deal on a TT. The lack of sc means nothing to me 90% of the time, I only ever use it at the track anyway. A simple exhaust change out is just as significant an improvement imo. Try to push em for 10% off. Agree with one of the posters, a lot of 2nd/3rd tier buyers barely know a porsche is German, let alone the available options. At least that was my experience with selling my C4S.
