How would a 997TT do against a Ford GT? (1/4 mile)

I was at a buddy of mine's house today, when I notice his neighbor pulling a Ford GT out of his garage. I started thinking then realized that I don't know much about those cars, other than they are, what seems (from what I'm told) - comparable to cars such as the murcielago and even the enzo. Would a 997 turbo be able to stand a chance against them? or are they both in different leagues? I know the Ford GT and 997 Turbo are very different cars, but what about the difference in power? Too bad I was in my daily (335i) while visiting my friend. Otherwise his neighbor and I could have had a little fun

I looked up dragtimes and noticed that they are in the 11-11.5 range which is along the lines of a 997tt....

someone please educate me. thanks

IMO, From a roll It would most likely be a drivers race .. although the GT would have a slight edge. There are a couple of Ford-GTs and 997tt going to GulfRun; I will chime in after that.

like I said, I don't know much about these cars (ford gt) and was interested on getting a few first person opinions/comments, rather than just goggling around. thanks

oh and you CAN compare an exige s to a F40 around the track not so much of a similar comparison but you get the idea.

The GT (w/ mid engine and rwd) is not set up for the 1/4 mile although once rolling it will easily catch the 997. Here is the killer about the ford GT: For a measly 3K the best tuner in the country will convert it to a full GT 700 (meaning it is putting about 640 to the wheels).

The 997, while a great car can't really compare to the Ford GT. The Ford is more of an all out race car. The 997 is AWD and has the full set of electronic nannies (traction control etc.) The GT does not: It wants to kill you. A better comparison is the GT2. Let me put it this way: The GT is one of the very few cars I would trade my GT2 for.

Of course the 997 is a much better DD, but for the weekend/track supercar there is no comparison.

I own both (my TT is a cab) and the GT is faster from a standing start. Take a look at speed at the end of the 1/4 mile and the GT is really starting to get a head of steam.

Definitely! I am taking my orange rims (on cup tires) out of storage today.
There are over 15 Porsches (993tt / 996tt / 997tt) coming.

There is one confirmed Ford GT and the possibility of a Ford GTX; we will see how they will do against the modified Turbos.

There is a twin turbo Ford GT that I just happened to have dinner with last night and take a cruise downtown with. As if stock they were not fast enough, the TT ones (which is really not that expensive, relative to the cost of the car, and relative to what big power packages cost for the Turbo) are just insane. This is for two reasons - first, because they sound and idle like stock and maintain almost stock drivability. Secondly, on the highway seeing one move is quite amazing. It sounds like it is actually tearing the air in front of it apart as it jettisons forward. One of the baddest street cars you can build. I know there are cars faster, but this thing sacrifices almost nothing and unlike some of these other 1000+hp cars are actually built for big power and high top speed, it's not a $50,000 or $80,000 car, it's a $150,000 one - and everything from the instrumentation to the diffusers to the suspension setup show that. I think that really makes a difference.

You really have to look past the badge with the Ford GT. It's a world class car.
