Newly paved track and carbon deposits.

I noticed something strange when I returned from Summit Point. The car usually has a lot of rubber pieces, I'm used to that. But this time I had l lot of carbon deposits on the wheels and the exhaust tips (dual tips). The carbon was like a burnt frying pan and very hard to get off, it was big and small particles, not carbon from the engine. It was/is on the outside of the tips and inside the wheels, some on the painted part of the wheel, some on the lower back of the car, but not on the calipers.

I know it wasn't just my car because my wife drove her Vet and the exhaust tips were also covered in carbon particles, not soot, on the outside. The only thing different at the track was that is was freshly paved and we were among the first to drive on it.

I'm a scientist and this has me puzzled. Anyone else have this experience? Thanks.

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question, but how was the new surface? Did it look well done, and how was the grip? I'm so glad they repaved Summit since it needed it badly but I'm curious how much different it is without the concrete patches.

The asphalt they used could be polymerized with high GRT? Just a thought!

I think is was finished only a day or two earlier. Its seemed a little slick at first, but there was a lot of dust. The ZO6 guys said there was no grip till the afternoon. By then I couldn't notice anything different. Didn't miss the concrete. There is one dange spot. Coming out of turn 3 the red-white curb is covered, there is no curb, so if you put a wheel in the gravel its all over.

Sounds like an asphalt problem.

yep, sounds like the new surface to me. the streets around where I live are pretty new (asphalt) and I get a nice layer of this crap in the wheel wells from daily driving. It is actually "staining" certain parts of my beautiful white car!!

GRT= Ground Rubber Tires, they use them quite a bit in special asphalt mixes which this one would. You can ask the track about what mix was used and pull the information from the DOT website. It's quite interesting what goes into those mixes.
