Lookin at a Ford GT....

Is there anything that I should check out, specifically? I had heard of a recall issue with earlier cars, but I am looking at an '06. Are cars w/o stripes more collectible? TIA

The best source of Ford GT information on the web would be FordGTForum.com. Almost everything you need to know about the GT can be found (or asked) at that site.

I wouldn't worry about buying either year. The control arm recall is not really a big deal. The speedi sleeve recall only affected a very few of the early 2005's.

I don't have the numbers for the 2006's, but in 2005, 84% had the top and side stripes, 11% had only the side stripes, and 5% had no stripes. So at least the 2005 #'s show that GT's without stripes are more rare, but I don't know if you could say they are more collectible. I would personally get the color and stripe combination that you like and not worry about collectibility. I thnk they will all hold their value fairly well over the years.

Good luck in your search. After three minutes in the car I was convinced it was worth every penny.

Best Regards,
Waldo

Actually, my dad just drove a Tungsten car w/o stripes ( it does have the side decals)...if he doesnt pick it up, i will pass it along to you.

Jack,

Tungsten is such a cool color. Of the 2011 GT's built in 2006, 541 were Tungsten. If your dad was looking for a GT without any stripes, the side stripes will peel right off. Does the GT have the other three options (stereo, wheels, calipers)?

Best of luck to your dad in his search.

Best Regards,
Waldo

Gt

Tungsten is the best color i think. I am selling mine and it seems these cars are really holding there value. I have had it for sale for about a week and have had all kinds of offers. Now i'm thinking i should keep it!

Waldo,

The car has the other three options. My dad is now second guessing himself...he really wants an F-car.

The GT values just shot up for some reason. Hard to find in stock anywhere, and nobody seems to know why. The prices all dropped for awhile, now theyre back up, holding around $180k or better. Great for the guys who bought them at low prices!

The reason is simple supply and demand, the GT's been out of production for more than a year now.

Yeah, but not many dealers have had much for inventory for a long time, but prices jumped very randomly. The market wasnt flooded with cars or anything before, and it hasnt changed much.
