hey everyone, first time posting on the benz board. thanks in advance for the help!

quick question, i have the current gen SL500....what are my options for lowering it? i put on 20's on the car and want to lower it a bit...havent had any experience lowering a car w/air suspension but i think ive heard its possible...

any advice?

 

I used the Renntech lowering module. Others like the adjustable links, Personal preference I guess...

Renntech,Carlsson,Kleemann,Brabus electronic modules are all great but I've heared that the Renntech one is easier to install and use.

 

Any of the major brand modules will work well. Depends on the brand you prefer and your price range.

 

Perfer the shorter (adjustable) links, simple mechanical replacement and no messing with C.U's- personal preference, though

 

Makes sense. I prefer to have the in-car adjustability.

 

I think depending on how low you would like your car, a lowering module is your best bet for adjustability.

 

Dealer lowered my car 2 inches ($600). Still has three finger gap, but 20's will close it even more. Plus no warranty issues, wife can still drive it around town, and car still lowers another inch normally at high speeds.

Or, get lowering module ($2000 + install), splice into ECU, void warranty, scrape up the front apron, but look so sick. Your choice....

that sounds like a good compromise...although the warranty is up anyhow at the end of this year. i didnt realize dealer could lower it...is this something they program into the computer or do they install something?

 

I have the renntech ELM. So sick, NO scraping! But, if you dont wanna plop down the cash, I would just get the adjustable links. They seem to work great!

 

any opinions on the best links out there?

I've never had them but know people that have and with no problems. It will lower your car a good amount too, and when your sick of it, just take them off!!!

You can get the new Renntech lowering module for $1200 plus install. It is fully adjustable and you will only scrape depending on how low you lower your vehicle. The dealer can only void your warranty if they can prove that the damage was caused by the lowering module. There are a lot of individuals that have this module as well as other brands and have had no problems from the dealers regarding warranty issues because of it.

 

Tell them to refund your money. First off it doesn't even take an hour to lower it so charging you more than one hour of labor is a complete rip-off. Secondly the car will eventually re-adjust itself to it's original right height over time.

As for lowering links you still have the ability to raise and lower the car with the button by the shifter, you just lower each height setting by how much you lower the car with the links.
