GT3 RS 996 vs GT3 RS 997

I have a question someone told me that the 996 RS was faster than the new 997 RS in circuit.
Anyone knows something about this? I can believe Porsche made a slower version in the 997 but can be possible.

i think the 996 would be faster with an expeirenced driver in both.. but i bet on the average the 997 would be faster around most track with average drivers ... that would be a nice comparision for excellence mag or purley gt to do an article on!

I wouldnt doubt the 996 RS could be faster than the US model of the 997 RS, which is basically a wing and paint difference from the base 997 GT3.

930man you are absolutely right, the 996 RS vs. 997 RS would be a great article to be done by one of the rags.
I do not know for sure but the 996 RS maybe lighter than the US version 997RS. I always heard the 996 RS was more of a track car and less street-friendly (regarding suspension). I do not know how to account for the 35 hp difference, its got to help the 997 RS.
Heavychevy the 997RS has a little more than the wing over the GT3. The LWFW accounts for alot. The motor revs more freely but that's a simple fix. Just put the LWFW in the GT3. We still the heartburn about the sunroof. I know companies that will be releasing a CF roof for the GT3 (Vorsteiner and Evosport to name a few).
Keep making that GT3 better,

I would love to see a comparo. I bet the 996 would be the winner due to weight.

On the official Sportauto test on Nürburgring the 996GT3RS was 1sec faster than the 997GT3 and 997GT3RS (euro version). Yes the 997GT3 and the 997GT3RS had the same time

I believe that the 996 GT3 RS is porsche attempt to make the last real RS. Not that i m saying the 997 RS isn't a true RS, it just isn't like the 996 RS. The 996 RS is more raw in every way. It doesn't have any driver's assistance like the 997 RS does.

To me the 996 GT3 RS is the last true RS made. 997 GT3 RS was more towards marketing.

I did some superficial investigating through my dealer about getting a 996 RS brought in the country. First if you can fine one that hasn't had the sh*t beat out of it by now and would end up too much money to get a non-DOT vehicle over here.
The nice ones the owners aren't parting with them yet. I did not try very hard in my efforts.

+1. Seen one in person too. That car is pretty hardcore. No wonder Porsche didn't bring it over here.

Car itself is smaller, lighter and tighter. But, not as user friendly or refined as 7RS they say. Search on RL. Some folks from UK wrote reviews.

I think it's the coolest 996.
