Anyone with a cabriolet + hardtop?

I am debating whether to trade in my 4S for a TT Cab or Coupe... I think I may be happy with a TT Cab and matching hardtop, but I haven't seen how the hardtop looks either in photos or in person. I would appreciate comments and opinions from anyone who has/had one...

You can go on the Porsche web site and go to the configurator and "build" a car. Add the hard top option and see the car from different angles with the top.

Yes, i know... but seeing a rendering of it versus a photo is much different - and being able to get feedback from an owner is priceless.

I seen a Hardtop on a 997 TT CAB for sale on ebay a while ago....

I did not like the look of the hardtop,, Looked kind of weird and really messed up the lines of the car! IMO

Here's a link to a black Turbo Cab with hard top

Black/Black Turbo Cab

Actually, I've just bought this car and taking delivery next week.

The hard top would not have been my personal spec choice - it's a bit too round and 'bubbly'. It's also not necessary - I felt the convertible top on my 997 C4S Cab was quiet/durable enough for all seasons here in the UK.

Unless I really dislike the look of the top in the metal, I can see me leaving it on until the weather gets better, then taking it off and never putting it back on.

Regards,

LWR

For some reason, I seem to remember that when the 996 Cabs first came out, they included the hardtop standard. Of course, I have early onset Alzheimers now so I could be completely wrong about that. Wifey, please bring me my sippy cup!

Relax, you're not on the slippery slope yet - in the UK and US at least, 996's had hard tops as standard. Owning a 2000 C2 Cab was enough for me to realise that the hard tops are more trouble than they are worth.

My wife hated the hard top. I'd have to beg her to help me take it off. Definitely a two person job.

Also, the way the seasons are in the UK, you could have the odd top down driving day in March that you'd miss if you had the hard top on.

Thanks,

LWR

Yes, they were standard on the 996's and you could get a credit if deleted when ordered. It certainly caused a glut int he marketplace for second hand tops also. You couldn't give them away!

The hard top seems to work better in Carrera White compared to the black I linked in above.

I think the aesthetics are compromised on the c-pillar with the hard top - you look at the car thinking it's a coupe, then you see the chunky c-pillar and it puts you off.

Agreed the lines aren't the same, but it will be nice to have a hard top in case i don't ship the car south next winter... It's a shame that it isn't standard on the 997TT - $3,400 option.

Now... who has a low mileage TT Cab they want to sell or trade me?
