So how is it in the snow?
So how is it in the snow?
I know some of you guys live in reality, err I mean towns that actually suffer through snowy winters
So for those that do and use their 997TT as a daily driver, how does it handle in the snow? Do you have snow tires on the car? I am looking for some real world comments.
Also, any of you have a baby seat in back?
If you haven't figured it out, I am arming my self with as much ammo as I can when I pop the important question to my wife.

Wisconsin...record snowfall this year. Average winter includes snowfall twice a week about 6-8 inches accumulation, temperatures as low as -10 to -15F, mixed with melting temperatures of 20-30s, then refreezing. To summarize, snow, ice, and cold temperatures.
With stock PS2s, forget it. Unless all the snow is melted, you'll never make it here on summer tires. And even then, the temperature is so cold that the rubber is hard as rock...and will slip and slide easily.
With winter snow tires, however, the 997TT is the most fun you can have on four wheels. Rock solid. Easily handles snow, turns, up hill acceleration, down hill stopping, freeway entry, exit, no problems whatsoever. SUV's with soccer moms that think they own the winter road can't hold a candle to the 997TT.
Salt, sand? No problem. Clear bra and pressure washer every few days...The only thing you need to worry about? The bozo next to you that forgot how to drive in the snow...crashing into you.

You know, we didnt get much snow up here towards MPLS/STP. I remember other winters that we had more. I just dont remember another winter that had a week of -45 temps with wind chill.
Bbywu pretty much summed it up. Winter tires and its all good, minus the idiots that cant drive even though theyve experienced 20 winters, and the soccer moms in suburbans that think they can drive and they are the only people who matter.
The PNW gets a little snow (esp at the top of my hill), and temps can range from mid-20s to mid-30s in the morning. Mine did great with the recommended Nokians on stock take-offs that I picked up for a good price.
There is a big difference when it comes to summer Michelins, but the Nokians surprised me with their dry, mid-40 degree handling. BTW the Nokians are rated all-season *with* the severe weather snowflake-in-the-mountain symbol, so they won't fall apart in warmer weather.

Oh yeah -- baby seats!
I have a Porsche Junior car seat on one side in the back, and a Britax booster on the other. It was fairly easy to find a booster to fit properly in the rear, but I had much more trouble fitting a pre-booster seat. Tried various Britax and Recaro seats until I gave up and got the Porsche seat. $$$ but fits perfectly. Less $$ since I ordered from an out-of-state dealer rather than my local dealer, but still 2-3x Britax prices (!).
2 kids in the back on winter tires running through the rain and snow in the PNW. This is my daily driver.
The kids fight over who gets to go with Mom in the wagon vs. Dad in "daddy's car! VROOM VROOM!"

I live in Indiana and comute to Chicago, I just got my 997 Turbo and couldnt bear to have it just sit in the garage. So, got another set of turbo rims and snow tires, clear bra and drive it most of the time. I use to have a Viper and didnt drive it much, in 4 years I only put 4k miles on it. With the porsche, I plan on driving the hell out of it...
It snowed about a foot and a half in Red Hook, NY this past weekend where we had our Church retreat and my 987 with snow tires DID NOT get stuck once going up hill....I was just one large snow plow....So I'm sure a turbo with snow tires will do just as nice...
