SL AMG dilemma...

Hello 6speeders,

Have a moral problem. Last year I ordered a SL 55 AMG 2008 medell, for some who dont know it facelifted version with some minor changes of the front bumper and rear lights, and ofcource with some good changes in interior. I waited for it for 6 months, its Red/ with designo classical red interior, has all possible options "glassroof, voice control, distronic etc... only thing it does not have is this SL65 package, which I mistakly forgat to order.
In here, Estonia, cars cost much more then in US, I payed for it 260`000 USD.

This year, mercedes ******, will produce new facelifted version with new engine SL 63 AMG, which I personally dont like at all. But, I have this strange filling that Im driving an OLD CAR!!! I hope its just me have some think problems. Im waiting from you coments regarding this sitituation and more, your logical and real thoughts.

When I was ordering last year this car, my dealer ofcource havent toled me about facelift. He told me that this is the last version, untill 2011.

As from my other threads you can see that I and my familly own some good cars. Personally have possebility of buying new car now without selling this etc, but when I was buying this car, I told my self that I will drive it for 3-4 years, because pay each year for a car 260`000-350`000 USD is stupid and not correct, better invest my familly money in something more profitable then cars....

Waiting you coments and thought, please no silly talks.

P.S Sorry for my english, sometimes my spelling and grammer in not very good.

Trust me people will respect your decision for going for the 55K, you dont know how many people would go for a new SL55 given the opportunity to choose between a new SL63 at the same time. The SL55 has 90 more lbs of torque and is modification friendly, look at the bright side your car looks much more cleaner, sublte and elegant when compared to the new SL63 with ugly looking helmet like headrests.

If you want to think of it this way just use it, its not a chocolate or a convenience good you would buy to consumer and throw later on. It is a car that suites you well and you would use to get you from point A to Point B. If I were you given the same dilemma I would get my moneys worth out of it by using it for a period of excess of 3 years so you dont feel regret that you traded it in and lost with such low mileage and time.

Good luck.

Thanks, your coments are allways clear and full of reasonable ideas. My SL can take me from A to B very fast and comfortable. And as you noticed, new SL 63 looks BAD... and steringwheel looks horrible.

Thanks for your reply!

P.S How do you think about cool factor of my car? If new SL AMG will start raiding the streets.

From your posting, I would assume leasing an SL would make better sense given the 50% depreciation in the first 2 years and your need to drive something new every 3-4 years. Depsite the SL63 being ugly, SL55 price will continue to tank unfortunately. Anyways, forget about any buyer's remorse and enjoy your already nice SL55.

Your car will still have its prestige, I too face the same dilemma the face lift SLK is soon to be out but I dont care about that you see only the exotics have minor or little to nothing in terms of changes.

I wish we could lease certain cars, however in some countries such as Kuwait the only luxury cars that I know of which can be leased are the S-class Mercedes, Range-Rover's, VW Touareg and other cheaper cars. In the U.S you can lease any highrange Merc or BMW and thats an advantage to those who dont want to face the depreciation of the cars within the first 2-3 years.

Congratulations, you are going to love the R8 in everything but the power. It might feel underpowered when compared to the torque monster 55K.

If the car costed you $255,000, why not come to USA to buy one and ship it back to Estonia?
Import duties cant be that much there right?

They are huge!!! if I will buy new car in US, tax will be the same as I will buy it in Estonia. But if I buy 3 years old car in US and ship it to estonia, it will be 25-35% cheaper.

Your car is beautiful. I personally like the new SL63 but many don't. Keep what you like, if you like your car, keep it. There is no sense in buying a newer car that many may not like as much, including you, just to have a new car feel again. This was more of a refreshening for he SL class. Save your money and buy the SL63 when the have a complete redesign in 2011 or whenever it is. If you really feel a need for change, buy a set of wheels or an engine upgrade so you feel like you have something new again. Cheers!
