Any of you go from modded 996tt to stock 997tt disappointed?

Hey guys
I've read a lot about 996tt vs 997tt, but wondering if any of you had a modded 996tt (say GT600 and above) and went to a stock 997tt. If so, were you disappointed with the 997tt? Did you find it necessary to mod the new one to be happy? I'm starting to think I want a stock car that is great out of the box. Although I enjoy the 600HP, my current car isn't the best daily driver anymore. Thanks

I went from a modded 997S to a stock 997tt and realized in less than 100 miles that it was time to upgrade. The result was astounding though.

I'm of the mind that the GT3 is better than the 997 Turbo, but then again if you are used to a modded 996 I doubt you'll be satisfied with GT3.

With something like a Porsche, if you've tricked out your current one, stepping into a stock vehicle again will always feel like you are stepping down. Its the same if you buy a nice watch, but then because you don't want to wear on it you buy a cheaper one for more common use. It just doesn't feel the same.

My recommendation is to stick with your 996 until all else fails, then if you really want a new one, buy the 997 Turbo.

yrralis1 has a point though: the 997 Turbo has been great to people who modify it. I know when I went from my 993 to a 996 it was a great bump up, but I hadn't modified either.

I recently road tested a stock 997TT & compared it to my somewhat modded 996 TT There was no notable difference in performance.Although the 997 felt more refined & quiet & do plan on getting one in the not to distant future when the prices come down a bit.

I personally love your 996TT. You should probably go to the 997TT just because it represents some personal growth in terms of ride quality and personally, moving beyond the red hot-rod to something that, because it's brand new, will be even more well refined. The 996TT while fantastic is not perhaps your caliber of automobile anymore.

600HP is fantastic but you definitely made a decision when going to open exhaust and lowered suspension. It's the SS396 Chevelle of the German supercar world. It's totally bad*ss.

Guess you're going to have to see weather or not you'll "need" to go for another open system for exhaust, ECU-tune + PSS10's on the new 997TT.

Personally, all I'd want to do for my own 996TT is have the rods done so that I can safely bolt the 650 kit to the car. Just PROMISE that if you drop the extra $150K for the new 997, PROMISE that you'll replace the disgusting stock wheels that Porsche selected with something decent.

Yes! The car is nicer, better fit and finish, all around an improvement... interior is awesome... but a stock 997TT is slow compared to a modded 996TT... as it it feels boring.

Did the mods create reliability headaches? I had heard the powertrain could be modded reasonably well w/o problems.

Thanks for the input fellas. I agree that my 996tt is a bit of a "hotrod" now and I think I want something a bit more refined, but still a great performer with speed and handling. I'm starting to think that a GT3 may be the way to go.

I think in general, these mods do not cause reliability issues. I think I've just had some bad luck lately with a couple breakdowns, but i'm pretty sure they weren't related to mods anyway.

Another (albeit boring), option would be to return the 996 to stock and just unload the parts. Nothing wrong with a bone stock TT.

Funny, that's exactly what a lot of us said coming out of 993TTs into 996TTs (and it was true then, too). I had a mildly modded '96 when I got my '01. When I was in the newer car I felt like I was driving an appliance.

The car is more refined than a 996 but it isnt really isnt all the way there (no bluetooth, sat. radio). You already got some great daily drivers and it looks like your porsche is your dailed up race car so with that in mind if you didnt mod the 997 you would probably find it a bit numb in either handling or power delivery.

That doesnt mean that the 997 will perform much worse than your 996 but feel wise you will probably see it as more tame car.

To play devils advocate I would say go with a modded a 997TT
