New Shop Truck. 56' Dodge.

Picking up a new shop truck on Thursday, its a 56 dodge, I have been looking at the chevys and the fords but to many out there to over done. Pretty much the most perfect body that I have ever seen for something of this age, painted in some sort of marine enamel on the frame and body its like epoxy.

Swaping in something period correct if it shows up at the right price, currently has a 273 and a auto which I can make look cool. Beds not bolted on and the interior needs total redo but thats easy stuff. Going to rebuild suspension, brakes, powder the steel's and find a matching fifth, rebuild the bed and interior over the next month to get it moving then decide what direction that I want to go.

Cool. My brother and I had a '50 Dodge for a while as a shop truck. Since we deal in Ford parts, we figured we'd better get a Ford. Have fun with it.

Any idea how many they made, I cannot find info on them anywhere, and I have only seen two in person. It really does not mater because am fabbing the suspension and brakes. But I would like to find a factory color chart.

Under all that white is a light powder blue, my wife already has claimed the truck so it might get some " SD Charger" lighting bolts and a white interior and she can have it for her 30th birthday.

No clue, i've probably gone to 1,000 car shows in my life and can only think of ONE other 50's dodge i've seen (or atleast remember)

Ironically the color of that one I saw was a light powder blue!!!

Charger bolts would be sweet (even though i'm a Raider fan )

Well then I have my work cut out for me in terms of part collection. Will post some pictures of it tonight. Might do a work journal here to give hope to those who actually have one.

Well its home, I laid out and cleanup up the wood, and mounts, I need to pull the gas tank and for the life of me it seems like the auto transmission selector has three forward speeds one neutral and one reverse. Will not come out of first in the first one kind of does in the second. But it runs drive straight and stops, better then anything else I have start project with.

It did fire up, 18 year old gas with stabilizer in it so it ran like a dog but it runs. Timing is right and everything else looks ok, all the fluids need to go and half the electrical is duct taped into place but thats a easy fix. I am going to pull the bed and cab late Saturday and see what I have really gotten myself into. I tracked down a spare tire with clips so all I need is one more hubcap.

Currently paint ideas are a two tone with a light brown upper, black rims with re chromed grill and hubcaps, or a red black flame job with alternating pin stripe colors.
I figure it will be drivable in about 2 weeks if I put my mind to it. Less if I could actually get parts.
