Daily driven old school muscle?

Anyone here daily drive classic muscle? I've been kicking around the idea of finding a mid-60s Mustang or late-60s Camaro as a DD. Pros and cons? I wouldn't be after a numbers-matching showcar obviously, but something reliable, quick, and well-built.

People do it all the time. I see a couple of 60's style Firebird 400's running around, a lot of 60's Mustangs as well. Not as many Camaro's as I would like to see but the place I work at has over 38 buildings (Cisco) so it's hard to see every building's parking lot every day!

I built mine to be "able" to drive it every day. I just drove SNKVNNM in today in fact. Took it to Los Angeles (Huntington Beach) and back to Sunnyvale a few weeks back in April without a single problem. The only real dowside right now is gas prices over $4 per gallon. that by itself may end daily driven old-school unless you take out some compression to run regular and change the rear-ends to like 3.08:1 and drive like granny Clampet!

Hmmm, I will definitely consider this path if I can find something close to what I'm after - fuel injected - maybe even mass air, power steering, disc brakes. I'm basically after a 'restomod' at this point, just nothing too extreme. I would take a foxbody drivetrain stuffed into a 60s Mustang for instance, and just enjoy it as any other foxbody.

I daily drove a 66 GTO tri-power that I rebuilt myself...It was AWFUL.

Horrible brakes, suspension, seats, steering, etc, etc. You would really have to WANT
to do this.

I now daily drive a Cayenne S, and it is VERY comfortable.

good luck and to each his own!

Gas at $4 plus per gallon. Old cars are fun to restore and cruise. Not fun to drive every day. I have a couple myself.

I have my eye on a '66 Mustang coupe currently. It has a fresh 302 (carb) and AOD, rustfree and very clean. Only drawbacks are dated leafspring suspension and rear drums (instead of discs) which I can address later.

I'm tempted, though the topic of fuel economy makes me wince a little. However, cheap insurance and lack of depreciation are definitely advantages. Can anyone speak to the latter? Always wondered about 'depreciation' on vehicles like these...

Not saying anything against your skill but I've never been impressed by any home build piece, now a shop like Prodigy Custom for example, you can have a car driving/handling better then a lot of sports cars today and top notch fit and finish with no rattles etc. Not cheap though.
