Mount Escort 9500ci-Help appreciated

I have done a search with no real results. I am going for the passport (escort) 9500ci which is a all in one radar detector, laser detector -shifter, photo radar, roadside speed trap. I need some help in where to mount the two interior elements so they can be easily read and the mute button accessable for those laser shifting encounters. What have you guys come up with? This is for a 08 turbo cab
thanks

Well, my Escort SR7+ (SRX) is mounted with the control unit in the glove compartment and the mute button mounted on the angled surface of the trim piece in front of the gear shifter. Admittedly, I can't read the display, but it is definitely concealed.

The LED is mounted on the steering column and reflects perfectly off, what appears to be, the center of the RPM needle. At night, it will also illuminate the entire instrument cluster during an alert.

I also run a V1 hardwired up above the mirror.

I just had the Escort 9500 ci installed on my new Turbo. I had put a $1000 deposit to reserve one months ago. I really love it! It has eliminated all the false alarms while my V-1 (I have both systems), continues to go off at everything. I have already had a "laser shifters engaged" alert which saved me! I have some pictures to post of my install, which I will do tomorrow. My husband is occupying the computer with those pics so I can't get to it right now. I installed the very small (about one inch side) control panel next to my steering wheel, the led display in my glovebox in the CD holder w/panel, and the power light below the PCM next to the cubby hole. I will post pics for you and think you will agree with the discreet locations, yet very functional for what you need. Do you need pics of the laser shifters - if so, I can post those too. The system is amazing and you will be very happy.

Here you go!

With these installs you can have the system removed and the car returned to its original condition (except the power light I think).

Great install! It looks very clean but is it easy to see the visual display when an alert goes off? Also, be sure to check if you are getting Ka band alerts on the 9500ci if you are using the V1 at the same time. Some on a radar detector forum I frequent are saying that the V1 and 9500ci radar algorithms are in conflict and dramatically hamper the 9500ci radar performance. Please let me know if you notice anything. I was thinking of running the same set up.

You don't really need the visual display since the system speaks to you. It actually has a voice that tells you which alert as well as the different types of beeps. I have X band turned off for this area, but get KA band alerts from both systems at the same time (only had a couple). It is K band (nearly all falses) that my V-1 picks up and the 9500ci eliminates those falses after you pass by it 2-3 times. The GPS is amazing. My valentine tells me the direction so I use that visual if I need to know where. (sorry for the duplicate - won't let me delete)

Thanks for the reply and so glad you are running both with no problems. Looks like I'll be placing an order soon. If only my wife shared the same passion you have for cars/driving!

Happy motoring.

Dose the laser shifters, jam law inforcements lidar guns? The CHP in California is using the lidar and I could see this being a problem. As soon as they point the gun at the car its to late. I really would like a jammer. Thank you for posting the pictures.

Just got my 9500ci installed today. Similar install as Greta's with the following exceptions: The power on light is in the left hand map light near the mirror. It glows a dim green when the power is on and flashes red when any kind of "hit" is encountered. My control panel switch (CPS) is mounted in nearly the same place, but higher up. The on/off switch that is on the top of CPS is covered, but a substitute switch is located under the dash directly below the CPS. My display panel is located in the middle of the "cubby" under the PCM (easily visible). If you need photos, maybe I can get Atomic80 to post some for you.

Other installations have both the CPS and readout mounted flush in the ashtray on the center console. A competent installer could show you a number of installation options. It may also be helpful if you can get a copy of the owners manual and read up on the various functions that unit can perform. This would help determine where you might want to install the CPS and Display.

The laser shifters are not jammers per se, but are diffusers that direct the incoming signal around/over the car and prevent a doppler return to the sending laser gun. Obviously the CHP would have a WTF moment, but you should have enough time and distance to slow down to a legal speed, turn off the unit so that when the officer reset his gun and shot you again he'd get a normal reading.

Larry

Like Greta I run both the V1 and the 9500ci (belt and suspenders mentality).

The Passport will learn where the false alarms are and then won't give you an audible warning. So once it learns all my local area false alarms it should be relatively quiet. My installer turned off the X band detection to reduce the false alarms in town, but it can easily be reinstated for highway driving. The V1 will continue to give false warnings, but I can turn down the volume so that it is not to annoying. The arrows of the V1 are helpful in locating the source of the signal.

It is also interesting the two units don't always pick up the same signal. The V1 is mounted high up on the windshield next to the mirror and 9500ci receiver is mounted behind the front bumper and these locations may contribute to this disparity. As a side note, if they both go off at the same time, the alarms are enough to initiate an unwanted bowel movement.

My suggestion would be to get a hold of Passport and see if they have a list of installers in your area.

Here's where Larry (HUMMM 3) has his LED light mounted. I have mine in the same place.

He also has his mute button mounted here. This is the old SRX button in mine but he has the newer version in the same place.

Thanks Jason and Larry your install looks great. BTW our cars love the 100 octane, Station not to far from the house has it at the pump. The car is like a different animal with the fuel. About 88 bucks for a full tank.
