Limited slip differential 997 TT upgrade

Personally i Think that the Limited slip differential ( LSD) that is an optional doesn't work well, my TT has bilstein Pss9 set up with techart sways bars, and the overstering and drift is rude and not progressive. I spoke with a friend of mine an Ing. that work for a porsche reacing team, he told me that the TT LSD is 20% lock in aceleration. and 40% in deceleration. This numbers are really poore for a LSD, so we checked the LSD of 997 GT3 Cup S ( motorsport part )that should fits on the TT wit a ratio of 40%-60%. Plus I talk with Raphael of 9ff Porsche Company ( www.9ff.de), they offer a custom made LSD wery efficient 40%-60%, ( 5.000 euro-7.500$)
<OThe guy reccomend this upgrade as a main upgrade with ofcourse greats results, in germany</ST1lace most of the main tuners change the lsd<O</O

Yes the stock LSD's offered for Turbos or Carreras do not have high percentages...They are 20% in both 996 & 997 if I remember correctly.

I've got a 40/65 LSD from Manthey in the 996TT and I'm happy. You should contact them and see what they can offer for you!

I guess people do not enjoy corners much because there's not a lot of talk about this

(I have not driven much with the stock LSD on 997TT so can't comment its behaviour!)

Thanks for the info, with the 40-65 LSD do you have nice in and out trough the corners? progressive overstearing and drift?

My suspension setup is not for max. oversteer, only a bit of it. But yeah, the rear works just like it should be! I really suggest contacting Manthey, the price you quoted from 9ff seem a bit high.

LSD is probably more important in a 2wd car than a 4wd car

Thanks kaizu, I already send an email to Manthey.
Eclou I had a lamborghini gallado that has a 40-60 LSD and was great, I can assure you that a 997TT with a 40-60 LSD it's another car much more fun and control the problem is that with a 20-40 LSD the car lose traction and drivebility on tight corners first and second gear. The point is that the TT in normal situation transfer only the 5% of the power to the front wheel, so it's like to drive a 2wd.

hilifeit I had a 75% lockup on my M3 and loved in on track, but it scrubbed badly on the street. I also understand that over 25% lockup or so if driven on the street most of the time the plates will wear pretty quickly, and you will end up with much less effective lockup.

I agree 75% is even too much on the track, I think that 40-60 is the perfect ratio on the street. Kaizu has that on his TT and it is perfect and I beleve him, I will try and post the result.
What about the Lsd on the 997 Gt2?

In my opinion stock 997 TT LSD is just fine.

1. In this car traction control is un switchable so there is no way to drive it full drift, believe me I tried and I know how to drift well.
When you switch the button off it won't work til you touch the brake pedal for the first time, which I use a lot drift to change position of weight. (have no idea how to explain in English but some of you know what I mean)

2.I drove with strong LSD (I drove also with draxler- 9ff use that one). I remember on the race track when I hard accelerate on the circle my car was only interested in driving straight. ( of course calibration of LSD was like 60/80)

3.I also drive the GT1 original Porsche LSD. Same filling depends of calibration. Pictures attached.

4.I also destroy original 996 GT2 LSD in pieces!!!!! I have a pictures somewhere.

5. Remember that some of the LSD are ware a lot and they should be rebuild.

Don't waist your money and stay with the stock one.
It's more important in rear wheel drive car without traction control.

Ps. don't forgot about drive shafts hard time in combination with stronger LSD I already destroyed one with stock 997 TT LSD.

997 GT2 LSD won't fit 997 tt gearbox.
