From the Top....Suggestions for a Scary Fast Ride

I've had my 08 997 for 2 months. 800 miles. 6 speed. Sport package. It's fast, but I had hoped for a little more something that would terrify the **** out of any passenger when I stomped on the gas.

I understand that the majority of the messages on these boards has to do with tuning, but, for the sake of a newbie that doesn't understand the minutia of the mechanical discussions or have the time to read 20,000 pages of commentary, could someone condense the experience and expertise proffered on this forum and briefly answer the following questions:

1. What upgrade would have the biggest bang for my buck? I suppose I'd spend up to 20k on this power lust habit, but honestly hope I can do it for much less.

2. What makers are the best?

3. Any concerns that these upgrade kits could screw up your engine? Ones to stay away from?

Also, what are your driving impressions before and after the mods you have made?

In advance, thanks for sharing your experiences....

easy. ecu and exhaust for well under $10,000. as far as what brand ecu, that is a whole another story with to many opinions. do a search for ecu flash and there are some on the board now.

Newbie advice

There are lots more experienced drivers on this form than me but for $20 you should be able to get a nice and serious upgrade. For starters, check out the web sites of some of the sponsors here and you'll find lots to think about. You will get at least another 100bhp and TQ, plus a new suspension for this kind of $.
ecu reflash
new exhaust
new headers
new intercoolers
new suspension
new rims
I'm slowly working on this list but those who have already done this make the improvements very clear on this forum.
Personally I'd wait until at least after the break in period. With these mods you can forget your warranty.
Good luck.

Does changing the exhaust really add much power? I'm really looking for power and not seeking a more intense aural experience.

There is tons of information that you seek on this form using the search feature. You'll also get some insight into the various debates re power and dyno results. Again, the sponsor sites offer lots of info as well.
You'll find that series of complementary changes, including exhaust, are needed to increase power and performance.

Do the mods listed for various cars have price tags? I don't usually see how much someone spent on their mods.

Headers, cats, mufflers and tuning will add 100HP to your ride. You should be able to do it for 10K or so. This is generally a safe mod.. I have put 10K miles on my car with no ill effects and the dealer even helped put the exhaust on the car.

The next bump will add another 100HP and requires replacement of the turbos and intercoolers, this will cost you another small briefcase stuffed with cash.

May I dare ask why you would want to scare a passenger?

for me, there's two answers...Protomotive or Evoms. $20K should get you quite a few extra ponies but I'm not going to put any numbers out there since I honestly have no clue on how many hp you'll pick up with that budget, but it should be more than enough to make both you and your passengers have to change your pants. I'd definitely look into a Tubi exhaust to go with the other mods that you'll get for your money, the sound is devine and the added hp will have you itching to press the pedal through the floor.

25k will get you the evoms 700kit...look on evoms.com and you can find all the different mods they offer. i would suggest you go with the 610 kit... and add a new clutch and suspension. should be plenty of power and suspension will balance the ride..i suggest bilstein pss10 coils, they will work with your PASM. Next step up from this hp kit would be to upgrade turbos and get intercoolers, if you are mostly using your car as a street driver save yourself some money and stay away from turbos and intercoolers. I have also heard many great things about the upgrades done by Tym Switzer, check out his website as well http://switzerperformanceinnovation.com/good luck
let me know what you decide on

Save your money and your passengers and do some track time.

If that's not enough, have a qualified instructor drive your car and see if he scares the crap out of you with the car being stock.

Then decide if you really need more power.
