Test Drove a CLS63 AMG Today.

Stopped by Penske Mercedes of West Covina for some parts and i couldn't resist but to speak to a salesperson about the CLS63 AMG . A nice fellow helped me out, if i remember correctly his name was Charles Park ( ex-salesman @ House of Imports ) he pulled out of the garage in a Silver/Black CLS63 AMG and we took it for a spin, i was impressed. So many buttons in the car.. seems like a television remote controller .

MSRP was 103,500 ... maybe if they cut it down a bit, ill be taking one home. Who knows...

Offer him 80 and buy it for 85.
The market is horrible, they need to make deals.

I see you have an '07 M5. How did you like the CLS "overall" compared to your M5. I know the M5 is more of a driver's car but if you could only have one (which is my situation) which would it be. I'm on the fence between the two and like to get actual owner's viewpoints on both cars. Thanks in advance for your opinion.

Amerlemans - I drove both and i'd say e63 with PP ( in silver lol ) is the way to go , looks so amg , it really has the soul , interior is amazing , and so is the ride , don't look at the pics just take my word for it and go check it out at the dealer , make sure its the Performance Package though.

It took a while for me to decide whether i wanted a CLS63 AMG or a M5.... but overall, Both the M5 and CLS63 are great cars, but it really depends on how much you drive it, and if you like the small things that BMW has that Mercedes doesnt, and vice versa. The SMG ( sequential manual gearbox ) that the M5 has is just incredible. Ive noticed that the 2008 Model M5's are alot smoother than the 2006,2007 models. And ive also noticed how the CLS63 AMG are alot smoother on shifts than the CLS55 AMG. But then again.. i am really picky when it comes to the small things.. which would not bother most people...

Id say go with the M5.... free maintenance and alot more to offer than a CLS63 in the aftermarket category.

The BMW free maintenance is stellar - I have became a big fan of BMW again over the past few days - They truly do make amazing driving cars and i absolutely adored SMG in my M3

Thank you Jorge. I've been leaning towards an '07 M5. I've never owned an AMG but owned an E46M3 manual and loved it...I've heard both good and bad about the SMG. My 335 has the step with paddle shifters. Now that I've had a "two pedal" car with shift option, I don't want to go back to manual. I just wish BMW would certify the M5 with their typical extended warranty.

I test drove a used CLS55 and was impressed with the torque. Is the torque in the 63 that much more noticable than the M5?

Funny you say that about the e63. I've been reading up on those as well here of late. I'll give it a look as well. Thanks for the input.

It seems to me like the 63 has more torque.. but you cant make as much power on a 63 then a supercharged 55

I understand that the 55 is more "tunable"...I was questioning about the TQ in the M5 compared to the stock AMG63 and how noticable it was from 0-60?

George,
spin in an E63 or 55 if u haven't done so, it's lighter & nimbler than CLS. E AMGs are more similiar compared to your E60M5 IMO. I didn't like the CLS tight ****pit windows & weight feel when taking off from complete stop. So are u going to add an AMG to your lineup?
