Are They dealing on the 997tt? v. lease/purchase q's

hey fellas.

have my 04 turbo cab i'm gonna let go... in lieu of a 09 turbo

with the economy and all, how much you think they will discount a 156k car?

how aggressive are the lease terms these days?
think i'm gonna do the 10k mi per year, as my car only has 25k miles in almost 5 years

any recent owners experience with deals?
please enlighten!

If the car is sitting on the lot, they will definitely deal. Depending on where you are buying, they might deal on an ordered car too. Coupe allocations are a little tighter than cabs, so both are selling for about the same price even though cabs have a higher MSRP.

Financing is tighter. Last month, the lease offers through PCNA had MF 0.00280 with residuals of 36mo-10K 57% and 48mo-10K 51%. Not screaming deals, but lease option over $100K are severely limited right now.

Why not consider a used one ? You can save 40K or so .

I can't see the lease pricing of 2400 a month approx . Spend 90K (with tax) and have nothing after three years ? When you can buy a used one for low 100's ?

buying used seems like the way to go in the car market right now. I am considering buying a 911, but its hard for me to justify new when 911s are (like all but a tiny few cars in the world) depreciating items and the market is going to hit a big bottom sometime in the next -2 +6 months. Its not irrational to feel that if you bought a $100k car thats wroth $50k in 5 years you'd actually be spending $150k on it, not 50k, because eventually the economy will recover and wall street along with it, and money in the bank will be a very, very good thing to have as the markets bounce back.

Are 996's still depreciating significantly, or are they somewhere near the bottom?

I've been looking for a 997TT, but still keep an eye on 996TT values as I had one not too long ago. 996TT has pretty much hit bottom and steadied out throught this year. 997TT's (although significantly more expensive) have dropped much harder in the last couple months, though.

Thanks medic, if the 996 market is stabilizing, I might have to shop for one. The 987/997 interior is nicer, but not necessarily as charming as the older cars and a nice thing about 911s is that they are somewhat timeless, and all of them still look good.

i have had a 996tt and 2 997tts-the 997tt is a huge improvement over the 996tt. even though the 996tt is a good car, it is not even in the same league as a 997tt. you can get a 996tt for much less money than a 997tt (easily in the 60's), but you are getting a much lesser car. it all depends om whether you can afford the 997, and whether you would be happy with the 996.

Hi Doc, thanks for the input. Right onw i'm feeling kind of cheap when it comes to cars. With the stock markets so dramatically down, I'm trying to avoid buying any with alot of room for depreciation because some day the markets will bounce back, which (in a way) sort of doubles the depreciation.

So i'm trying to find a couple of cars that I like that have seen most or all of their depreciation.

How big is the diff between 996 and 997 relative to 986 and 987? Similar?

i understand my friend, you definitely should not buy anything that causes you to spend needed money on cars. i remember when i first got my 996tt in december 0f 02-it was a seal grey 03 coupe-it was a great car, 6 speed. the dealer had 2 cars sitting there that he really wanted to get rid of, as they were ordered cars whose buyers went south on and it was also winter in the northeast. i leased it for 39 months for an unbelievable $1230/month, 0 dollars down, tax included, 12000 miles a year. i drove it for every mile of it's alloted 39,000 miles-i even tried to buy it at the end of the lease-the residual was $79,000, buy the car was only worth about $60,000, as the new 997tt models were just about out, so i walked, even though i loved the car. then i ordered a 997tt and took delivery november of 06, and then i was able to tell the difference between the 997tt and the 996tt. the 997tt 1(with the new turbine geometry had much bigger accelleration) 2(the 997tt handled much more sportier and sharper, in ways in which the 996 could only dream) 3)the cabin had significantly more leg and head room-i am 6'7"-for me, there was a much bigger difference) 4(did i say it was significantly faster?) over 120mph, the 996tt would vibrate, a bit, despite multiple attempts to balance and allign everything-the 997tt just rode smoother the faster i went) 5(the nav system was far superior) 6(420hp vs 480+hp) 6(countless other systems worked better) if you can afford it, check out the vast assortment of 07tts on prsche.com-they seem to go for 92k all the way up, most of them appear to be 105-110k and up, depemding on miles. 01-05 996tts (in 05, i think they were 996tt s model, which means you got the x50 package -good for 450 hp along with pccb breaks-these cars are probably in the 70k+, where 01 cars can be probably had for in the 50's. they are both great cars, the 997tt is only greater. hope all that helps.

hey doc, I did take your advice adn go drive a 997tt, and it is a phenomenal car. Lord but I had a good time driving it. I hope to get a chance to take a spin in a 996tt as well, but the 997 is dynamite.

There is no comparison between a 996 and 997. The 996 almost ruined Porsche ownership for me. The 997 is just a different car, light years beyond the 996.

Porsche will finance at 6.5% which is a joke. You can get 5% from your bank, pretty ****ty as well. Pay cash!

As far as deals, I have been dealing with this for months. You can buy low mileage 07's for low 100k this includes cars with PCCB's. A new 09 TT on the lot will discount for 7-8k. Order one and you'll probably settle at about 7K off sticker.

If you really want a deal, just wait until the end of Jan.

I ordered a 08 997TT cab in Pasadena, but it arrived too early and the sale person never communiacted with him along the production stage, so I kind of pissed because he jsut called one day and said the car is at Long Beach and will be at dealer in a few days, I was caught off guard as I need to plan for this, and I expected it to come much later.

Anyway, back in March, the $150k MSRP car for 48 month lease, I need to pay like close to $3k per month including tax, 12k per year. I just walked, and i am glad I did.
