Harness Bar GT 2 seats
Harness Bar GT 2 seats
I am going to use my turbo on a track I joined in Texas and wanted some advice on a harness bar. At this point I do not want a roll cage so instead I am looking at GT2 seats with a subframe bar and a harness bar so that I could use a 6 point harness. Sparco makes a harness bar for a 996 turbo and I am guessing that it should work for a 997 turbo but I am unsure if that is the case. Any suggestions?
JNixon might want to check with your track as far as rules. PCA does not allow running harnesses without a roll bar. If you flip, the harness holds you in place so that the roof crushed your head
I wanted to get a better seat for track days. I joined a track in Texas near San Marcus and there is no requirement for a roll cage. I guess I could add a roll cage but I want to kept the back seats so that my kids can still ride in the car. Please any suggestions. The bar still kepts me planted in the seat better even in a roll over. I do not see how you would be worse off in a rollover with the bar. The bar is connected to the car and adds ridigity to the structure. All I want is to not move around in the seat when I am making hard turns.
Are you referrring to PCA Club Racing rules or PCA DE rules?

You have to do a harness and a full roll bar or keep the stock belts and no roll bar. Anything in between is simply not safe. Matter of fact roll bars are very dangerous on the street without a helmet. Do a search on Rennlist this topic has been covered in detail.

A half cage doesnt impact daily drivability at all. I've been riding aroud with mine for the past couple of weeks I've had no issues.
Visibility is just about the same, I just lose a little bit at the top of my rear view mirror. Other than that I dont even notice the cross bars anymore. If you get a harness bar or a roll bar I would recommend getting it black so it doesnt reflect any light.
If you get a half cage like me it also doesnt make it any more unsafe to drive on the street. Only a full cage that extends over the A-pillar and the side of the door would be unsafe for street driving.
I've used both the stock seat belt and the harnesses for the city and I think both are fine. Only complaint about the harnesses is that sometimes it can be a pain when you only need to drive a block, or pull into a gas station, but other than that no real issue.

No there is a higher incidence of head injuries with an exposed roll bar. In a violent collision your head is tossed around quite a bit and it can impact the roll bar. Padding might help but be careful.
