Hey guys & gals I am interested in getting a air intake for my 997 Turbo, but would like something that looks like stock, and has dyno proven gains.....any recommendations, or anyone have experience in this area?

that looks nice too! I would also stay with a stock looking design that draws air thru the engine cover, not within the engine compartment.

 

That was the intake I was leaning towards, but they dont have any actual dyno sheets that their intake has produced the 20 hp they claim... Do you know anyone that has installed it and has felt a difference?

 

Why do you want an aftermarket intake? Porsche poured countless hours into R&D. Most if not all aftermarket companies make a cool looking product, but is a huge fail compared to the OEM intake.

 

I've been on the fence about intakes. I feel like exhausts are obviously made to apply to the masses and a bigger/louder exhaust can make an actual difference. I would tend to agree that OEM air intake's are probably big enough. Unless you get a bigger manifold, won't a bigger intake just get bottle-necked at the manifold? Please correct me if i'm wrong. I had a CAI on my 3series and couldn't tell a difference.

Spend the money elsewhere, stock box and filter is good for tons of power. When you swap the turbos out it MAY be time to look at an intake or filter change however.

Want to spruce it up a bit back there? Think GMG carbon box and a BMC drop in filter. But if its dyno proven power your after, look elsewhere.

Note the way these make power is via more air and more air = more dirt. Fine if your leasing, maybe not so if you plan on owning for a long time. Then you have the oiled filter killing sensors potential but thats a whole other post.

I was on the fence regarding a drop in BMC filter but other than only sprucing up the engine compartment with a splash of red I dont think its going to do much.

 

Vivid is a very reputable shop and sponsor on this board as well as others. If they're claiming 6 months and thousands of miles during development, the it's probably pretty accurate. I'm sure they have a dyno graph if you ask for one.

 

Not calling anyone out, but the industry is famous for stretching the truth a bit.

An aftermarket intake is really not necessary IMO. Just a BMC filter or even the stock setup is perfectly fine for lots of power. Even the 700 hp kits sold by most of the sponsors here do not have new intakes. Just my $.02.

 

The stock air box already flows more air than the engine can use. Unless somebody has an engine dyno result to show otherwise, stick with the stock box and perhaps a BMC filter.

I installed one, it definately feels like the turbos come in sooner and maybe a litlle stronger, for the cost it is an awesome upgrade.
