Brrrrakes on the 997 turbo

i had the car for nearly 2 years now and i never had any problems with the ceramic brakes.

but recently the service manager recommended that i change them and so i did and now i feel the brakes arent stopping as well and the squeaks..my god, its embarrasing

i cant take this sound and the attention i get. and to make things worse i have straight pipes so people look at the car and the ending is with all the squeak noises

the noises only come when i am braking at lower speeds...nearly coming to a hault and sometimes when braking hard at high speed

pls i need your help. the dealer says that the sound is normal and he cant do anything about it and even though i change my pads again he doesnt guarantee the sound will go away

you can keep the calipers you have an upgrade to the 2pc Brembo rotors and some Pagid RS yellow pads. This will cause no squeaking and actually improve braking and longevity over the stock ceramics. See here - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/b...6-p-58443.html

There are a lot of factors that make the sounds come and go but there's no real way to get rid of them. That's just how the brakes are designed.

Dont have ceramics but I run track pads on the street and my car squeaks like a bus.

Goto the track a few times maybe it'll change your opinion.

Now I just enjoy it.

Did they replace them under warranty, or did you have to pay for them?

How many miles were on your car?
Any track events?
Did you notice any issues at all before you went in for service?

(1) Ask them the specific reason they recommended the change.
Did you get to keep the old discs or did they take them?

(2) Complain to the service manager that they were functioning PERFECTLY before they were replaced and not you are very unhappy.

I would have recommended removing the original ceramic discs and putting them on the top shelf in your garage in a box. Buy the NEW 2pc. discs from Brembo and enjoy the car without any worries. Put the original ceramic discs back on when it's time to sell the car or trade it in.

TCM is infamous around these parts
Yes, have you tried hard braking maneuvers to seat the new pads? That could be your problem.

I keep racing pads on my car year round and have learned how to modulate the pedal to eliminate 99% of the squeal.

I have an 08 boxster with PCCBs and no noise at all. Best breaks I have had on any car.

I would guess that yours are not broken in or they put the wrong pads on. Break in procedure for most breaks are maximum stopping from high speed to full stop. Let cool while driving easy and then repeat about 3 to 5 times. This will properly seat pads.

After well seated, if noise starts again, you may need to speed up in reverse, a little, and break to stop. This will clean some dirt which gets embedded from regular usage.

There are brake spray to reduce braking noise. You should thy this first.

Dan, I think that is something wrong because in the descrition of the product in your site it says:
"These rotors are sold in pairs for the front of the Porsche 997 Turbo 6piston brakes. These DO NOT fit PCCB brakes. The hats are hard anodized and clear coated."
So i guess that your solution doesn't work for cars with ceramic brakes.

I would lose my mind if I spent all that money for the PCCBs and now have to consider another upgrade. That's total crap. I would not let the dealer off the hook so easily.

I have the big reds and they are outstanding.

On the other hand my Lexus was squeeking like crazy and I was besides myself...they have just replaced them for a second time under warranty...and now no squeek.

There are indeed sprays and gels that can help prevent brake squeal, but those are generally for cast iron brake systems. I've never seem them work on a PCCB car. Different type of friction, creating a different type of squeal. It doesn't hurt to try, just DO NOT get it on the rotor or brake pad surface.

For the Brembo 2pc. rotors from Vivid...
The listing you are looking at is the 350mm discs for the non-PCCB cars.
There is a new application for the 380mm discs for the PCCB cars.
These are in stock, with the appropriate pad compounds.
Vivid should be receiving the first shipment of these next week.

Retail $2095 + $495 for pads.
