Want new wheels, but have to slum it ... thoughts on these?
I want new wheels on my basalt black 997 Turbo, but I can't rationalize stepping up to HRE's right now, which I put on two of my prior cars. Any thoughts on the 20 inch gold (yes gold) OZ Ultraleggera HLT's that are on closeout on Tirerack.com?

Sorry for the long link. With tires, looks like about $3.7k delivered to my door, less than half of what HRE's will set me back. These wheels appear to made for a perfect 997 Turbo fit. Anybody know if this is a big mistake? I really only drive this car on the weekends for fun. I am getting a Tubi exhaust installed this Tuesday - the mod bug is hitting me on this car but my bidget is tight. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

If you like them, go for it, personally I like the wheels a lot (just not in gold). But if you don't love them, you'll probably just end up wishing you waited and eventually end up getting what you really wanted later down the road. Just save a little longer and get what you REALLY want. You'll be much happier in the long run and most likely, you'll end up saving money since you wont do it twice. Like TT Gasman said, go for 19's. Also, do you really like the gold? To me it's just not "classy" enough for a P-car, looks like it belongs on a WRX, but that's totally an opinion and everyone has their own style, that's what makes modding so much fun.

Words of advice. Don't buy wheels that you don't love. No other modification makes a cosmetic difference to a car than the wheels it sits on. If you aren't 100% happy with them, it will make you sour every time you walk up to your car.
If you don't love the wheels you are buying, wait. There is no rush.

Thanks for all of the thoughts. I am not sure where the seed got planted that I don't love them. I do love them - I am sure I would love HRE's more though. Still, at less than half the price, I think I could really love these! As far as the gold, I too worry that it will make the car look like a Subaru, but with the metallic basalt black paint, I think the contrast will look cool.
I have a set of used HRE p43 flat black 20" call me if you like .. thanks ben

One of the things to keep in mind is that if you buy mods that everyone wants you aren't really spending the full price.
For example I got the Champion RS171s and they were quite a few $$$K but if I need to get rid of them I will quickly find a buyer and I will reclaim 50% of what I spent.
Now these wheels maybe half the price of the RS171s but when you goto sell them you will have a harder time finding a buyer and reclaim less of the value.
So in the end, if you factor in the selling price of a desirable mod, it may cost you about the same as a mod that no one wants to pick up.
That's always affected my buying decisions, I know if I stripped my car I could sell 75-90% of my mods and get back 50% of their value, maybe even more on some of them.

And I almost forgot, dont forget you can pick up someone else's used mods.
I got a pair of 996 GT3 seats, a FabSpeed exhaust with tips, and the GMG roll-bar from members on 6speed. Saved myself probably $3-5K in the process.
Wheels are definitely something you can pick up used and catch a great price if you keep your eyes open.
