+1...I was very close to buying a TA setup, but:

1. sounds almost like stock...very quiet
2. very heavy
3. minimal HP gain compared to other units

TechArt offers two different exhaust systems for the 997 Turbo (street and race). Both are the same price, half the weight of the factory exhaust and will free up about 20hp. The difference between the street and race is the exhaust note. The street has a decibel level very similar to factory (someone looking for a stealth mod). The race is instantly recognizable. As soon as you turn on the car, you know something has been done. But it's not overpowering. Since it's TUV approved, it has to maintain a street-legal sound decibel level. It's about as loud as you can get for a street-legal, turbocharged car that still smog-legal. It is by far the favorite among my 997 Turbo customers. I highly recommend it!

TA's site says the race version is not legal for street use in Germany. Doesn't that mean it is not TUV approved?

Good Eye bbywu! Rep to you for keeping me on my toes! It's not street legal in Germany because their decibel restrictions are tighter than here in the States. This is why they classify it as a "race" exhaust. However, it is TUV approved for export only. TechArt and other German-based companies are not able to sell a product that isn't TUV approved.
