Went Drag Racing with new Mods. Pics and Video

For years I have hated going to the dragstrip, but recently found a new love for learning the art of launching and going fast. This past Friday, Vivid Racing and friends headed down to Firebird International Raceway for Friday night drags. It was about 95F out in the Arizona night. We just filled up with some 100 octane pump gas and were ready to hit it. In the crew: 2010 Nissan GTR with 5Zigen Inconel exhaust and Cobb Accessport, a BMW E36 widebody racecar at an astonishing 2600lbs powered by a LS1 V8 engine aka GMW, and our very own Project 997TT. The Porsche was just equipped with some straight pipes and a custom plenum with larger throttle body. This was its first run out to do some tests.

With the boost cranked up to 1.4bar, the first run was a miss with a bad start. Taking the lap around to the start, I was able to get a good a line up and launch, firing down the strip with a trap speed of 127mph and a time of 11.4. This was the best run of the night as 2 other runs after were misses. With the included mods, cooler temperatures, and some fine tuning, we expect to see this 997 in the mid 10's. More work ahead! 11.4 at 127mph is respectable. congrats. is that the 750 pkg or 800 pkg?

The white GTR did a 12.1 I think. It was quick. And a hell of alot easier to launch!

DK - I dont have a package number for this really. But here are my mods: GT3076rs Turbos, Tial 44mm Wastegates, Agency Power Quad Tip Straight Pipes, Plenum with CTT Throttle Body. Agency Power intercooler piping, YPipe, Carbon Intake, and Headers. Softronic ECU Tuning.

I was running 100 octane at 1.4bar. I hope with cooler temps we can really show some good times. Again it was 95F out!

There must be something going wrong with the car. With K24 Turbos, headers exhaust and ecu tuning, i managed an 11.54 @ 126mph. Was there good traction at the strip. Was the tuning finalized, or was that a shakedown pass. I bet you could hit low 11's perhaps high tens with those turbo's. Great car. Good luck.

were you running in 95F heat?

Yeah cars are nowhere near as fast here in the summer. It is so hot density of air decreases so much, even at night it is still mid to high 90's.

His 60fts were not to shabby but could be improved slightly. Overall that is a very good run as we have always been more focused on road racing rather than drag racing. So I think with a little better 60ft, cooler temps and a little more practice this car will be well into the 10's.


(On a side note I tuned an WRX last week that hit 180 degree IAT's. So needless to say it gets warm.)

Like my OP says, I hated drag racing. Now I am into it. But lets be honest, I suck! Hopefully will get Softronic to do a 2-Step launch control to help out.

Dan if he (Q8_TwinTurbo<!-- google_ad_section_end --> ) ran in Kuwait or Bahrain I'm sure it was above 95f, it's 95f in winter time down here. today it was 113f and this is a not too bad a day, it gets up to 131f a few times each summer.
