What: Saturday Morning Drive
When: Saturday December 5th 8:30am
Starting Point:
Vick Auto Sport
5200 Vesta Farley Road
FtWorth Tx 76119
Etc: Over the past several years I have been part of organizing a morning drive that starts in the Dallas area and ends at a drop off point for toy donations. The only cost involved is that you bring at least 1 NEW unwrapped toy. The first year we had 30 something cars show up, last year we had over 100! This year we are looking for closer to 150.
I will add more details as they come together, ( time and start point ) , Maps and Directions will be provided at the driver meeting.
This is a multi-forum event, each forum is being challenged to bring the most toys.
Here is the latest post from the Drive organizer:
"As most of you know for the last 3 years we have done the toy donation with a local fire department. They usually have a very good pulse on the community and they can then donate the toys.
In spite of the fact we had a huge turn out last year I kind of thought the fire department aspect was getting a bit 'long in the tooth'. So this year I am shifting gears completely.
For three months I have been trying to figure out how to pull off a toy run for a particular group and as our reward we could get to do a nice run and see some really neat stuff.
Two months ago I hit the jackpot! A client of mine introduced me to a person who knew a person that thought they could help. The person that I was introduced to is amazing. I have talked to her on the phone multiple times and she has been a master of working through the maze that this institution puts up. I have had to get clearance from not only the local 'big wigs' but also from Austin and beyond to pull this deal off. It would not have been possible without Christine G.s help.
If you are an aviation buff you will want to make this run, because if you have not figured it out already we will be on a Military Base! The facility that we will be at has an acre plus of parking for our cars-when lined up in a semi-circle. The demonstration that the guys will give us is interactive so you are going to be on/in a machine with the actual crew that operates it.
I am still working out some details with Christine but there are a couple of other 'deals' we are trying to make work. One request that they had was-would it be possible for the some of the guys to get a ride in the cars and I said I did not think this was a problem. So if you think you might want to give a soldier a ride in your car plan on doing so. The details of this are currently being worked out.
I hope this has tweaked your interest in participating. Please tell all of your friends that might be interested I would like to see 125+ cars and the guys would love to see everything we bring. "
So, are you up for it? This will be the largest organized Toy Drive in the DFW area!
More details about the drive:
We will start at Vick Auto Sport in NE Ft Worth. Please be at starting point at or before 8:30am! Entry is at least 1 new and unwrapped toy, you may bring as many as you like.
When you arrive, please pay attention to parking, everyone needs to be heading the same direction ( makes departing easier ) back into parking spaces or pointing the right direction.
You will need to sign in ( waiver ) you will get your route map and directions at this time. You will also be given a special sticker to place on your windshield.
The drive will then leave and head South towards Grandbury, Mansfield, etc.
We will then regroup ( remember this is a 100+ car event ) and be escorted to the final destination. ( **Escorted by the local PD and MP )
We will be met by members of the 149th Texas Army National Guard and the Collin County Childrens Advocate Center.
We are expecting to be at the Toy Drop by 12 noon and the route is expected to be 100 miles in length +/-
So, Please:
1. Arrive with a full tank of fuel
2. Bring your FRS radio
3. Bring a Co-Pilot
Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions
