997TT to a Lotus Exige S240 or S260...WORTH IT?
997TT to a Lotus Exige S240 or S260...WORTH IT?
I was thinking selling the 997tt for a Lotus Exige S240 or limited S260 to do more track dates without having to spend too much more $$ on the 997 to make it more track friendly. I know the value is not a comparison but I believe the exige would make a better track car as it comes ready right off the showroom. Despite the huge hp difference, I am tempted to pull the trigger on this deal. The trade and msrp on the S260 is almost the same. Any comments would be greatly appreciated....thx
HELL NO!
That is unless you really don't drive your Porsche on the street much. If you do 80% track then you can consider it, but if most of your driving is on the street the Porsche is the much better choice.

That was my last car, I had an 05 elise with a supercharger. I miss a lot about it, but there was a flimsiness I don't miss. Stuff just shook loose on the car, the little toyota mill buzzed and made my teeth chatter. Doors were "dooritos" just very simple aluminum stock with a thin fiberglass shell. I was waiting to be killed by any texting minivan driver at every turn. Be prepared to not be able to even carry a large pizza in the car.
I still lust after how it looked and steered. Steering was the best of any car I've ever had, including JCW mini coopers, many 911's, and this 997 TT. That same twitchy handling though made long drives very painful. Look down for 1 second to fiddle with something and you've just hopped a lane.
Lastly, any accident, no matter how minor has a large chance of totalling the lotus. The bonded aluminum chassis is great for lightness and stiffness, but becomes a total write off if someone taps you at 10 mph.
If I needed to go lighter/smaller I'd go with a boxster spyder now, or a f430 spider if you had the cash.

tough decisions as I got bored of the 997 and wanted something for track dates without having to spend too much $$ on mods to make it fun..... Will test drive a s260 today and see how it feels..... If i had the cash....lambo or fcar would definitely be my choice.hahahahaha
LOL...you guys are making laugh as i was expecting these feedbacks from the porsche gearheads!!! I bet posting in the lotus forum will have different results. In any case, let's see as i am in no rush. Maybe just dump another 10k and upgrade the turbos, intercoolers, and clutch!!! that should make it more interesting at 700hp!! hahahahaha

I owned mine for 3 years, it was a great car. Very reliable. I sold it for 30K. If I were you, I'd snap up one for under 40K and enjoy it alongside your turbo. There are lots of them for sale. For what I got for mine, I wish I kept it.
I really like the 240. I think it is a superb track car. Very very light, quick, nimble, very fun to drive. It is NOT a daily driver, unless you have a chiropractor on retainer. It is not an equal to the 997TT...it lacks creature comforts, any real interior, and on the street, driver visibility is terrible.
I'd buy the 240 as an addition. If you sell the 997TT for the 240, don't expect to use the 240 as a daily driver...it will disappoint you.

budget doesnt permit to have an additional car as I already have a 335i as a daily driver. I drive the 997 less than once a week so this is why i was thinking to make the move and let the 997 goes to a owner that will make better use of her. I have 6k miles in 4 years with the turbo. sad to say the least. So i dont mind about the impracticality of the exige as i may only drive it onthe weekends or take it to a track date this summer.
