Techart 1 Lip Height Difference vs. Stock Lip

Ok, getting to the wire on the decison about the Techart 1 kit (it's not exactly cheap). I'm staying with 19" wheels and not lowering the car. I found pics of cars this way (TA1 kit on 19" wheels, not lowered) and it looks great.

Does anyone know definitively how much lower the Techart 1 front lip makes the car vs. the stock lip? Very concerned about scraping on our poor roads. I've read the old posts and there doesn't seem to be a clear answer. Answers seem to range from a half inch to 1.5 inches lower. Does anyone know?

I don't have an answer to your question, but if you're looking to not scrape AT ALL, then forget it. ALL front lips (factory or otherwise), will scrape at one point or another. These are not SUV's. Just have to take a deep breath when it happens and then shake it off

agree with bonehead. will be dropping off my car tomorrow to have techart 1 front spoiler, rear wing, and GT2 side skirts painted and installed.

my car is lowered and i know i am going to scrape it. I have the skid plates also going on and worse case I remove it every now and then and repaint it.

I have the type 1 Techart lip and I scrape it everywhere. Of course, my car is lowered beyond the usual 20 mm and my front lip bears the grunt of it.

Get the skid plates from RSS and don't worry about what happens to the under side of the lip. I usually take it off every once in a while and just get it repainted.

Chris, even with the skid plate, be careful the 2 pointed front ends of the Techart lip -- those 2 things could get hit on the underside and they are not protected by the skid plate who don't protrude out that far. My car is lowered a mild 12mm, and because of that reason I probably don't scrape that much, but occasionally there is still that oucchhhh ooouuuuu weeeeee mama mama !!!

And then there are other marks from various road debris. As Gotboost mentioned, best to just repaint when the scars have accumulated enough. Luckily, mine has been on maybe a year (?) and I still don't see the need to repaint yet.

I know that I'm going to scrape it, as I already scrape the stock spoiler. Just trying to get an idea of how much lower we're talking.

Oh sorry I didn't realize your original questions have not been answered.

I'll check again but I did measure for someone and I vaguely recall the height of the lip is 9 cm (???), at the side point, immediately in front of the wheel well.
The key is that I don't recall that it scrapes *that* much more versus stock. It does seem more only because every time it scrapes, it hurts a lot.

If you are keeping stock height, I don't think it's going to be much of a problem at all. At 12mm or so lowered, I would scrape, oh maybe once a month, to give you an idea.

Are you not lowering the car so that you don't scrape? I've seen the 2 cars stock height vs. lowered next to each other, and it's a matter of taste but I think most will like the lowered version much better (stock looks SUV like). Hope this helps & have fun.

Here you are....just measured it now for you. From bottom of spoiler to ground is 108 to 109mm. I measured it from the front/side of the spoiler where it will hit. Mine is stock ride height with techart lower front lip. I also didn't end up putting the protector strip that i know cannga and others have fitted as I figured it will only place more upward pressure onto the lip on occasions when i have an unavoidable scrape. For me to lower the car would not work. I know some say it looks like an SUV but i dont agree with that. If i had coilovers (damptronics etc) i would have a lift kit no question as without it would a waste of time having any form of spoiler without it. I am so so careful with not hitting the spoiler but there a couple of speed humps I crawl (and i mean crawl) over each day and i slightly scrape those (cringing in the process) so any further reduction of the ride height with that protector will only make it worse imo. Pics of my car on www.sharkwerks.com go to projects click 997gt2 pic on top left and mine is 10 down the list. Lowered a bit would be nice but there are too many compromises for me to warrant doing that plus i dont see it as an suv in stock height. I find it is more susceptible to scrapes than the stock as the design of the lip changes the entry angle a bit....not much, but enough to make it scrape more than stock if you are not on your toes . It looks way better than stock imo . Also if you do any track days the spoiler can scrape a touch braking hard from speed into hard corners with undulations...lowered would be a major disaster (for me anyway).

I have the Type 1 and love it . I did lower the car when I had it installed. . (It's about 1/4 -1/2 inch lower than stock ) .

Here's a few pics . I had to really search to try and find photos which display the ride height clearnce. I hope it helps.

Thanks for all the info, measurements and advice guys. Going to look into the RSS skid plates, but I now realize that I'm going to be repainting every once in awhile no matter what. Such is life. Although I agree that the car looks better lowered, I still like the way it looks at stock height. Not too worried about the SUV look. Always good to know what I'm getting into beforehand, so thanks again.

Only had the car 6 months, and it's already cost me a Tubi Street exhaust, and Fabspeed tips, and now looks like the Techart pieces as well. Damn, I've got to stop surfing this forum...

I love the type1. Subtle and almost factory-esque. The factory aerokit is a bit too subtle so this works.

Here's former NY Giants superbowl winner Amani Toomer's car with full type 1:
