i have a 2009 997 turbo and just kick myself each time i hear about someone raving on and on about how amazing the 2010 pdk turbo is! i have a 6 speed manual and enjoy it but its just not the same. are there any ways to swap a transmission to a smg or something like a pdk? is this a crazy thought? i just love how seamless the acceleration looks on the new pdk. also how long should my clutch last on the 997 turbo?
Have you driven the PDK turbo? Many much preferr the 6 speed man trans over it. The pdk is very responsive, and pretty much like the f1 trannys.. I have it on my mind within a year or two trade my 08' tiptronic coupe in for a pdk..
When you eventually start looking at modding your car to bigger power packages, you will find that you made the right decision going with an MT and you won't look back.
Ask me how I know!

just wait until more people start experimenting and more tuners come out with packages. The GT-R is already past 1000whp with it's dual clutch transmission. I'm sure it won't be too long before the 997's PDK hits similiar numbers.

Its not the PDK that cant take the high HP. It´s the new 3,8l engine that is weaker than the old GT1 block.
Just spent 10 days driving thru Germany and Austria with a 997S with PDK and sports chrono. While I appreciate how good it is, with it's lightning quick shifts I was bored to tears to be honest.
My only other experience with PDK was at PSDS, and while it's obviously fast on the track I wasn't sold on it. However, I thought that that was too small a sample of experience to develop an opinion on it so I was really looking forward to driving it in Europe.
For me, it's almost too good. if buying a turbo today, i'd have a tough choice as I feel the new car was kind of built around PDK. I'll probably get killed for saying this
but even though it's much older technology, and not as "good", I prefer the F1 in an F430. There's a lot more drama with each shift. Like I said, the PDK is so good, the shifts are almost too seamless.

As for the 3.8 being weak.. Has anyone blown one yet? Or are we talking speculation that it can't handle the power?
I drove a boxster spyder with the PDK and was not thrilled. The DCT in my M3 is far superior. Even on the sport plus setting the transmission felt unresponsive to my inputs and has lazy shifts, like a torque converter automatic. I really wanted to like it.
My M3 allows me to adjust the shift speed and response much better than the Porsche system.
I am not sure if the turbo is any different.

In my opinion, the PDK is a huuuuuge jump over the 430 F1 gearbox.
However, to address the OP's original concern - my opinion is wait for a person who feels exactly the opposite of you. There WILL be somebody who is swept away with the new PDK, but then missing rowing their own gears. I'd seek a trade (unless you are big on personalization). I don't think there would be any feasible way to swap your gearbox (this had been discussed previously, and somewhat currently).

PDK is by far (till now) the best double clutch gearbox...But when tuning starts and torque goes high...It has its limits...and manual gearbox will hold much more torque...Also at higher than stock hp/nm both PDK and 3,8lt engine will slip and fail respectively...One 3,8lt engine cracked, there are info in the forum,do a search and also I believe Evoms has already reinforced PDk internal parts to stand raised torque...
