Going rate for dealer plug swap?
My TT is in now getting new plugs, was quoted $1200 parts and labor. Did not think much of it, its a royal pain I hear, however it seems to be higher than what a few others have told me they were charged.
Does the price seem right for the job? My fav. service advisor is no longer with the dealer so I am a bit untrusting of the FNG.
FYI changing at ~22k, will report back on condition of the stock plugs when removed.

thats way high, i work at an independent shop and book time is like 4-5 hours. Ill add to that, i have never actually seen it take that long. especially if the tech has done it before. 1200 is WAY high. even at 50 a plug (ignorantly high) and 100/hr labor you should still be in the 800 range. Is this all they are doing or is there an oil service, filter change, tire rotation, blah blah blah also included in that 1200 quote?
Nope, straight up plug swap only.......I thought it was high sounding. They have not started it today, plugs not in stock (McKenna) so will take it up with the new advisor tomorrow.
I found it odd he was unable to issue me a quote when I dropped it off at 7am this morning then I get a call at 4pm telling me the parts are not in stock, its $1,260 for the job making sure its 'ok to proceed' in the morning when the plugs arrive.
To add insult to injury the apointment was made in person middle of last week, you would think they would check the parts were in stock.

RUN! That is way to high! I changed my plugs at 20kish miles and they were fine! I don't think you need to change them till 30ish and that just a guess...When I checked mine they were all clean and the gap was still really good on them!

situationally, it sucks for a customer but its kind of how it is sometimes. service writers often assume that things like plugs will be in stock. remember they are just the voice. half the time when it comes to parts being in stock they are working off of information coming from the parts department. once the day gets rolling its terribly difficult to get a chance to call everyone that needs called when there are always random people dropping by unannounced sucking up loads of time and twice as many people calling in to suck up free information. the 4pm phone call i understand, thats when the day slows down enough to start attacking the list of people you need to call, however the dealership is slacking since you made the appointment last week. i order whatever i need for a job when i make the appointment, if i have it and dont need it i can return it or replenish my inventory. all im saying is give the new guy a break, he is probably playing it safe and trying to make his supervisors happy by playing by the rules, im sure there will be an amicable resolution to the situation. my advice is to talk it out without saying "i read on the internet that it should only cost this much." i had a guy that would always say that even after i tried to do everything in my power to make him happy, one day i couldnt stand it anymore and told him to have the internet fix his car.

It's just shy of midnight where I am. I'm tired and trying to help a guy out with some information. I am fully aware of how to properly write sentences, paragraphs, and punctuate them accordingly. Last time I checked this was a forum not an AP English exam. Add something useful or GTFO.
The time for this job books for 5-6 hrs...Even at the dealers rate thats high! Spark plugs retail for ~$10 per plug....IMHO either the SA quoted him incorrectly or he needs to take the car somewhere else.
The oem plugs are $31.60 a plug, I could not find them anywhere else online.
My tuner recommend OEM plugs gapped down to .025 and that is why I went with OEM plugs.

I could have saved $120, oh well part of the money we through on these cars.
Thanks guys for the feeback, much appreciated. Doing the quick math at stealership prices for parts and $155 labor rate it is unfortunately adding up to the quote.
Lesson learned on my part for not shopping it around but the low amount of time Im in the country to get this done, let alone drive it, Im just going to take this one the hard way. Hopefully this will help a few owners out about to swap plugs pick a dealer.
