Advice Please-Getting to buy: '06 Viper SRT-10 or '07-08 Z06

Hello 6speeders,

Hopefully some of you in the American Muscle chapter of 6speed can help a fellow car nut in a situation...

I'm torn between purchasing a 2006 Viper and a C6 Z06. My price limit is around $53K...but looking to stay as low possible.

With this in mind- I've been looking for the past month or two at Vipers & Z06. Besides the regular differences of the 2 cars such as "better" gas mileage on the Z or the exclusivity the Viper brings...is there anything i should really be thinking about between the 2 cars??

Both will be weekend toy cars...I have no high HP goals, I will be "light" modding (maybe even consider a Supercharger...maybe lol). I am just confused on which one to lean to. Btw- the wife says "no" to owning both.

Hopefully i hear some good/ appreciated info from current or past Viper/Z06 owners.

My co-worker's viper had a leaky roof. Rained on it twice. Filled the cabin up with water both times. Dodge wasn't much help. They just took the interior out and put a blow dryer on it. Nothing replaced or adjusted. Her Viper is huge on the outside, and super cramped and uncomfortable on the inside. The cabin is so tiny and the interior really lacks compared to the Vette IMO. The vette is much more roomy and I think you'd find nicer options on the Z06 that would be more livable as a daily. I actually get more excited when I see a Z06 on the street than I do vipers. The Viper's loss their swagger somewhere down the line.

I tend to agree about the Viper's interior as being sublevel to the Z06's and that's not saying much as the z06's interior is considered low level in terms of quality for the amount of the car.

Thx for your input about the Viper

IMO, you see Vette's (Both C6 and Z06's) everywhere, you rarely see Vipers around.. Something to consider i guess, the Viper still catches eyes everywhere it goes

If you like driving more then 50 miles at a time stick with the Z06. I've seen Z06's with low miles in the mid to low 40's. The Viper will definitely be more exclusive, but has a crude feel to it. Either way fun cars with plenty of horsepower and modding potential.

Well said. I like the Viper...but in my opinion, unless you are going to Twin Turbo the car, the Viper can not even come close to the zo6. The viper has great looks but so does the zo6, and stock for stock an 06 Viper vs 06 zo6 the Viper will lose everytime. Really the only way I would own a viper is if it were TT or a 08+

Just my .02

Oh and also, I daily drive my zo6, I would NEVER daily drive a Viper...

gas mpg can't be that?! can it?! lol. Not that I care about mpg especially with a Viper. We had an E60 M5 (V10) also and from the stats of Dodge's mpg stock rating for a Viper (13 city 20 Hwy)....it beats the V10 M5 by a couple miles. lol.

If you're that torn, you gotta drive both and decide. The look of the Z, then a drive had me hooked. Vipers are sweet, but I'm not much of a convertible guy either.

If it matters to you, the A/C in a C6 Z is ice cold. The seats are the only real drawback, but for the street they are fine. That's my only complaint. Well, that and the tiny battery compartment!

If I had to make the choice again, I would get the Z everytime, but good luck either way in your search.

yes, I have driven both. Still can't make up my mind. lol but the comments/opinions posted here sure have the C6 Z06 head and shoulders above the Viper. I Appreciate all the input and hopefully I can update soon.

Best bang for buck, Z06 hands down, they simply put the power down. There is a local stock 08 Viper (100hp more than the 06-07's) and was door to door with a local C6Z0 and lost to another one by a car or 2. The C6Z0 it went door to door with, the owner can drive but is still getting used to the car, the Viper owner and the C6Z0 that won can row with the best.

The only, emphasis on only, drawback from the Z0 is they are a dime a dozen now and I personally think they look a little more bland than a Viper. It really depends what you want, both cars perform great and react very well to mods. So do you want a little more exclusivity, or a better base performer?

I'm not talking about mpg, but actual driving comfort for extended periods.

First let me say I am a HUGE fan of both cars (how can u not be) . I have owned C5 Z51 Vettes to Z06's. But for a weekend car/toy I would choose the '06 Viper COUPE. If you are concerned with mpg neither car is for you..espcially if driven like they were intended to be driven. The Vette is too darn ordinary looking, especially since the new grand sport has many of the same body parts. The Viper is much more exclusive. Completely different ride and the Viper is definitely not for everyone..daily driver it is not. As far as speed..get rid of the crossover exhaust and stock cats...install corsa with roe hi-flows along with intake and DC software and for roughly 3-4k it will be as fast as the Z06. And the sound is incredible. Good luck and you really can't go wrong with either.

yep, i hear you. I'm looking at a couple Viper's this weekend and the Z06 is a second thought now...unless I come across a Z06 that is just a slammin deal.
