TTS order without Center Lock wheels
TTS order without Center Lock wheels
I'm ordering a 997.2 Turbo S, and at the last minute I switched the wheels to the Turbo II because I didn't want the center lock option. I will be tracking the car a lot, it will also be my DD, so I will be taking the wheels on and off a lot. As will my local mech and alignment shop. From the comments I've read on this forum, and the GT3 forum, I came to the conclusion that the center lock is a bit of a pain. It takes two people and the system isn't as robust as the five bolt.
I know it looks great, and I've just thrown away a +$3,800 option. Do any of you center lock owners think that I've made a big mistake?

go 5 bolt.... centerlock is gimmick, different on a real race car...its just been a headache for me.
less wheels made in centerlock design
need specific tools most shops dont carry
2 man job to undo the wheels
same wheels in centerlock actually weigh more than 5 bolt
if you sell your wheels more buyers for 5 bolt
no crazy pain in the *** greasing and torquing instructions

My wife's Turbo S also has the 5 bolt wheels. Since it was purchased used (if you can call 630 miles used) she had no choice. I was disappointed at first but the deal was too good to pass. After reading some things about the centerlocks, I am changing my feelings about the wheels. I felt the same way about "wasting" the money. She has no clue about the wheel issue and really loves the wheels on her car. The other day we were back at the dealership and they had a Turbo S with the Centerlocks. I casually asked which wheel she liked better without explaining anything about centerlocks, money etc. & she liked the regular wheels much better.

I feel the same way.. The center lock wheels look boring.
Unfortunately it does not work that way on a Turbo S which is what the original poster, PyroKerry, is talking about. While it is ~4,000.00 to add the centerlocks to a Turbo, there is no credit of ~$4,000.00 when eliminating the centerlocks which are standard on the Turbo S.
no charge replacement. but it sucks they don't cost less... since they are obviously less valuable.
Yeah, it does. The only consolation is that I should be able to buy the center lock parts if I every wanted them, maybe when I sell the car. I figure they'll be plenty of people stripping them off their cars.
