Brakes squeeking???

Hey guys I have a 2008 997tt with 9k miles on it and the brakes have always squeeked. I have taken it to 2 dealers and the pads and everything else is fine and they said that these are high performance brakes (mine arent pccb) and the squeeking is normal. Does anyone have the same issue and if yes is what the dealer saying true??

Mine are the opposite, when they get hot they sound really loud right before I come to a stop. It's not normal squealing, it's much louder. Time gor a brake job? 15K on the car.

Neither of my 2 cars, C2 with iron and Turbo with PCCB, have ever squeaked. But yes... but I've been told too that if they do, it would be considered "normal."

There have been numerous discussions on this. I don't think the cause, or the cure, will ever be known. Unfortunately.

I know this doesn't help but the Brembo's on the Mercedes SLK squeaks as well and it's a known problem. Going fast then slam on the brakes helps temporarily.

Dealers say a lot of things are normal but common sense often says otherwise. Proving it is the hard part. Ive had a few "normal" things fixed now...but only after proving/showing them. I'd buy the normal brake squeal thing if it happened when the brakes were cold, and it was from all 4 discs, but hot? and from only one disc? I'm not convinced thats "normal".

Like yours, mine get a real nasty squeal just when pulling to a stop on what sounds like the left hand rear disc when the weather is over 25 and after some hard stops. What side does yours squeal? Mine only does it during summer months on a hot day over 25C+. Winter is not a problem. Mine has just started doing it again in the last week on a few hot humid days.

Speed I know what you mean and agree with you. "Normal" is used and love by the dealer because of its deep deep deep implication: Your problem, not ours.

IOW: we are not obligated to fix because it's "normal." By saying "normal," all responsibility is off. I am SURE they love it and say with an internal evil smile. :-)

07 with PCCB's..... annoying squeal... but not always.. i was also told by Porsche dealer that this is normal and that this happens on all porsches... so, just because it happens with all Porsches, this makes it normal??.... yeah ok!!!

How about the dampeners? Did the dealer change those out?

You're absolutely right about that cannga. The good ole "your problem", "not ours".....but "its normal anyway" seems to be a usual dealer catch phrase....a bit like an infalable fall back position after all else fails. It seems to be an automatic presumption that not too many Porsche owners are mechanically savvy. So to say "normal" is like a reflex action of the tongue one may say .

I was told by P that the pccbs make no noise any more so im not sure why the story has changed to "its normal".

Im sure this "normal" is part of dealer training. Btw does yours squeal from all discs?

Yep. They tried everything inc disc sanding all the discs....saying they may be glazed (when they didnt even look it....plus i dont ride my brakes ever), changed all the dampers and shims and did all sorts of playing around. Last effort they even changed rear pads as well. I was never happy with the disc sanding of the discs especially when the squeal was coming from only one disc on rear. Its like removing some of the disc life on a new car. So now the final answer. is..."its normal". But i ask then why only in summer and after some hard high speed stops and just one disc. It looks to me that one of the rear discs seems to be getting hotter than the other side. I suggested they pull the rear calipers and check all of the pistons for equal movement. I maintain there has to be a reason for it or all 997tt's would be much the same. To simply say some do it and some dont just doesn't cut it. I've told them just give me one of the ones that dont and i'll be happy .

when i took my 996tt in for service the lady in the office said "make sure to used the brakes hard at least once every time you drive your car or they will squeak". it's not my everyday car. i thought she was told to say that to promote more brake use for more service. so i would use the brakes lightly and sure enough the squeaked. so short story long, the brakes are made to be used or they squeak.
