New Turbo S owner: a few questions...

1. IPOD cable woks but does not charge iphone 3GS or iPhone 4.

2. Do your Xenon headlights need to be turned off manually when turning car off (auto turn on, turn off)

3. PDK. Haven't put it in Sport mode yet but noticed when shifting up (1st to 2nd, 3rd to 4th, etc) there seems to be a delay of perhaps a second or slightly less to shift. Is this normal in this mode or should it be instantaneous? I haven't gotten the RPMs above 4500 per the manual so does it get faster as it is broken in or at higher RPMS?

4. No matter what what head lamp mode I am in , only the 2 or 3 of the LED front lights turn on - not the full line of them. It looks symmetrical, so I think the operation is normal but how do you turn all of them on?? What mode??

I'll think of others... Thanks!!

Hey,

1- Cable does charge Iphones 3GS and 4G

2- Unofortunately you'd have to turn it off manually

3- In Sport/Sport-Pluss modes are much much much faster than normal mode, u need to try it and see the diffrence your self .. It's simply amazingly quick
(warning above advise could be addictive)

4- unlike the previous model 997.1 which fog lights turn on with head lights. Our fog lights are daylight running lights only, so when u turn them on there's only one option for each mode

Regards

Why wouldn't all the shifts be fast all the time? Why have a separate "sport" mode for faster shifting? It would seem that you would always want the fastest shifts possible.

Hey Jeff,

Put her in "Sport" mode. It's much more aggressive. Regular mode is worthless and only there for the aforementioned. Be careful in "Sport Plus" mode though, it won't shift until redline which is not a good idea for several hundred miles. So how do you like it? Mine's not here yet, won't be for at least another week

Simply because in sport mode shifts r so agressive u wouldnt want to feel that kick on every shift when cruising.. Sometimes we need the comfort our porsche offer so normal mode is heaven when u ask for it

Great, Thanks guys!

Another thing in the manual I noticed is 'KICKDOWN'. I assume it means putting the gas pedal to the floor... What does this actually do for me?

Thanks!

The car automatically switches to sport plus mode for shifting gears, even when in normal mode. Shifting will only happen at redline, maximum acceleration.

Thanks!

I tried out PSort Mode this morning and the shifting was noticeably faster!

The manual says 2000 mile break-in and to keep the RPMs below 4250. What is the minimum you guys drive before taking the RPMs high and drive hard??!

Hi Ted,

Well it's my birthday today so I'm pretty happy all around.

Yeah... I haven't punched it or really gone crazy but I can tell there is a lot of untapped power. The car is tight, the interior is slick and it seems quieter than my '06 Carrera 4S. It is really fun to drive and gets a lot of looks. The flat Azure Blue paint is just plain neat. This is my 3rd Porsche and my first brand new one. This break in is the worst thing as I want to really see what it can do and try out the Launch control. I'm really happy! I am looking forward to some better weather. In the mean time, I want to get as many miles on it as quickly as I can.

I know yours is on the way. What's not to like??

Thanks! I guess to baby it during the first thousand miles (and to minimize 'lugging' - high gear, low RPMs), I'll just drive it in normal mode unless there is a better suggestion. This will be my last Porsche for quite a while, so I want to do all I can to make sure the engine breaks in properly.

stvs911tts is infamous around these parts
You will also notice the throttle response is much more sensitive in sport modes. PDK won't use 7th gear in sport modes. I noticed downshift throttle blips in both sport modes that I never notice in normal mode.

I read somewhere in this forum a while back that you don't get full boost in normal mode, but I can't confirm this as under full throttle I am too busy hanging on to watch the boost guage.

Good luck following break-in rules. It's like refraining from s*x; almost impossible!
